This whole case is a severe travesty of justice. Sumit Kapoor was sentenced to 90 more days in jail for robbing and slicing. He was suppose to be in prison from Mon to Thurs. and because of overcrowding on home arrest with an electronic devise. The tragic accident occured on Thurs. Oct. 28th 2005 why was Sumit out on the streets. He had a record for robbing and slicing since 1999 as well as the 2 friends with Sumit who perjured themselves in court and all have violent histories. Then there is Shawn Plafker no criminal record robbed at knife point window of his car smashed by Robert Sirju with a steel pole Adrian Brown coming after Shawn with a snowbrush shaved to a shank. Where is the justice? Our system has failed both Sumit Kapoor and Shawn Plafker!!!!! Should Shawn not tried to escape maybe he would be 6 ft. under with Sumit. Sumit Kapoor and his cohorts not only destroyed his family but the Plafker family as well.

You are obviously a friend of the Plafker family who did not bother to get her story right before blogging this article. Did you attend the trial? Do you know the facts in this case other than what has been published (and if you are smart, you should know by now that the media is known to twist stories to sensationalize them)? Shawn Plafker was not "escaping" anything - there was a fight about pot - then Adrain left and Sumit left. That could have just been the end of it. Shawn did not have to go after Sumit after this - after all, if you were at trial, you would have known that it was not Sumit who took the pot and started this whole thing. And, for your information, Sumit was not on some "electronic" device for robbing and slicing and was not sentenced to jail Mon-Thurs. Also, you talk about his friend's lying on stand - do you know how much Shawn lied on the stand and to the officers who took his statements? You dont know Sumit at all - he was a good person who did not deserve this. Instead of being respectful to that who died and to his family who has been destroyed, you choose to sit here and praise Shawn - are you on crack? Shawn is no angel - you should have gone and attended the tial on a daily basis to see what "great" things Shawn has been up to as well - he is a murderer. He could have gone home that day - instead, he choose to go after Sumit with a car (aka. he is a coward) and hit him and drag him more than 31 m. And now, after this is over, instead of offering console and symapthy to the devasted and kind family he has left behind, you guys choose to sing praises of Shawn and say "inaccurate" things about Sumit. Shame on you.

Also, when I say that the media can twist stories to sensationalize them - I must clarify that I am NOT referring to the media as a whole. Thus far, the media as a whole (including the writer of the article we are blogging) has made good effort to report this story without being biased in anyway. That comment was brought on by anger and disappointment towards that one reporter who covered this story - the one reporter who befriended the defense and choose to ignore his responsibilities as a journalist and instead report with complete bias towards the defense. You must know exactly who I talk about Ms. Hoffman. I don’t know - it still amazes me how you can sit there and go through so much effort in criticizing and defaming Sumit with obvious lies - someone who can’t even defend himself because he is DEAD. I don’t understand how a person with any empathy can sit there and say "poor" Shawn, when it is Sumit and his family that has suffered throughout all this. I may not be a part of Sumit's family but I know one of them very very well. They have been through hell and will continue to go through hell....they did not deserve this and neither did Sumit. And they certainly don’t deserve your inaccurate statements. Imagine the hurt they will feel if they ever came across any of this! To make yourself feel better, do not blog inaccurate statements that just hurt people who certainly don’t deserve it and who certainly wont do the same hurtful things if they were in your position.

What Bull. Were you at the trial sitting through this. Sumit Kapoor had a history of knifing and slicing. He was known very well through the neighbourhood as well as his cohorts for their violence. Just one and half months before the tragic accident Sumit was sentenced to 90 days for robbing and slicing. You talk about his family. I cannot believe they never knew what their wonderful son was up to. As for Adrian and Robert it is well known in the neighbourhood that many people were set up in the same manner as Shawn Plafker. How wonderful they were never caught!!! You think the Plafker family has not suffered through all of this. Nobody told this Mabley Crew to go out and rob and bring their weapons. Robert and Adrian not only perjured themselves during trial but through preliminaries and through disclosures. Adrian has a violent history since the age of 15 he is now 26. Adrian recently was imprisoned for attacking a 62 yr. old man and breaking his right wrist. Robert and friends robbing and bringing a knife to strangers at Yorkhill Park. Adrian and Robert are alive and yet they are left to wander the streets continuing in their violent ways. It amazes me how you can substantiate the use of weapons and theft. Obvious lies you were not at trial I sat there many days as many of us did and heard the truth. I repeat the system failed Sumit and in so-doing failed Shawn.
Sumit in making his poor choices as his sister stated in her victim impact statement may still be here and 2 families would not have been destroyed.
As you are in such knowledge how was it Sumit brought income into the household to support his family when he did not even have a job??? Why was he fired from Swiss Chalet???? Maybe you should do your research before doing your own criticizing!!!!!

Obviously you are down in Georgia. Were you in attendance at this trial? I was reading your response to Ms. Hoffman and was surprised that you called Shawn Plafker a murderer. He was found innocent of murder by a jury of 12. The jury deemed this travesty an accident and the unlawful act was Shawn was on a pedestrian walkway. What perturbs me is your question why did Shawn have to follow Sumit? Better yet question why Sumit got himself into a robbery in the first place taking his kitchen knife with him even if Adrian Brown took the onus and said it was his idea. Maybe if Sumit resisted temptation of "easy money" and "getting high for free" he would still be here with his family today!
Yet you still seem to blame Shawn for Sumit's passing not once did you state that Sumit was following through on Adrian Brown's idea of robbery and using Robert Sirju to "Stand 6". What amazes me is yet the Kapoor family seems to stand by both Brown and Sirju. I wonder really if the Kapoor family were so blind that they did not recognize the scum their son chose to hang out with. It's not easy to be a parent in today's society but somewhere people need to look within and find forgiveness to heal. Casting blame is a Sin!
Nothing can bring Sumit back but it was his choice to rob Shawn Plafker and hold a knife against his neck. Shawn did not go looking for trouble but trouble certainly found him. I also feel if it were not Shawn who drew the number re: Sumit it would have been the next one or the next if he was not stopped with his friends to commit these dreadful robberies!!! I have to agree with Ms. Hoffman the system had failed Sumit Kapoor and unfortunately because of a failed system Shawn Plafker has had to pay as well.

Why is Shawn Plaker being made out to be an angel? He was not known to police because he was never caught. Those within Sumit's circle of friends knew that Shawn was a drug dealer. He was found with plenty of drugs and lists of how much was sold and to whom they were sold. Does this sound like an angel to you? Sumit wasn't an angel either and shouldn't have tried to rob Shawn. Why didn't Shawn just leave it at that? Instead his anger caused him to get into his car, follow an Sumit down a pedestrian pathway and run him over from behind? Doesn't this constite murder? Even if Sumit and his friends are coming towards you while in your car can't you back up? Must you drive towards them? Is that not intent to hurt someone? Can you be that stupid and not know that when you hit the gas and drive at a pedestrian you are bound to severely injure or kill someone?
Simple fact is one person killed another. Neither were angels but no one deserves to take anothers life.
Those supporting Shawn are most likely family and friends that ignore common sense.

Why didn't Shawn report it to the police that Sumit pulled a knife to his throat? Oh yes that's right, he too is a criminal. They both are and one is not better than the other but what gives one the right to run someone over with their car because they were robbed? Is a car not a weapon when you use it to hurt someone?
I'm not on anyones side but i'm sure if your son was run over by someone intentionally you would damn well yell murder. Stop being a hypocrite and face the facts. Both parties are at fault but one doesnt have the right to take anothers life. That is the whole point. The system didn't fail Shawn. Dealing drugs is just as bad as robbing people.
The system has not failed here. Shawn is not at full fault for the death of Sumit but he played a huge part by following him down a laneway with his car and accelerating and dragging him over a block. Those are not the actions of an innocent man.

If he was not such a dirt bag in the beginning none of this would have happened. Shawn Plafker was not an angel I admit. But he had good intentions, and he is an amazing person. If you people actually attended court on a regular basis, you would understand the case. Just to note, the media is never correct when it comes to cases. Shawn was found not guilty of second degree murder. Sumit Kapoor was already on the ground when the car struck. He had a knife to Shawn Plafker. It could have been him who is dead, and all you people would be pointing fingers at Sumit. This was not murder, but simply a mistake that Shawn should not be punished for. His family as well as him has suffered enough and Shawn has learned a valuable lesson. Don't judge people you don't know because your making a terrible mistake. Shawn is a loving brother, and he cares deeply for his family and others. Not a day goes by where he does not think of October 28th, 2005. He has been incarsierated long enough. It's time for him to live his life already, and move on. And im not just saying this because I know Shawn Plafker, Im saying this because I speak the truth.

Sumit and his friends orchestrated this scenerio and evidently this is something that they have done numberous times in the past. It's unfortunate that Sumit paid dearly with his life for $90 worth of pot. What a stupid waste of life!!!!

Sumit was the catalyst of setting up and orchestrating this entire scenerio. Gangs are not just minorities. Nothing justifies robbery and use of weapons!!!!Nothing. Sumit and his friends did not just use coke or pot get that one straight. In our society we must work for what we want not just take it. Unfortunately when you don't work you have NO money. Maybe more integrity and honesty are needed. Great people do not go out threatening others. Nor do they rob people with knives and guns. Sumit was not a great person he was only a person who continued to make bad choices as also was admitted by his sister Priya. If he had really wanted to change for the better he should have tried to make much better choices and one of those choices should have been choosing better, smarter people to hang out with. Remember you are only as good as the people you are with!!!!!If you were such a good friend of Sumit's then you know that Sumit purchased all kinds of illegal drugs from a number of different people and many a times there were NO cash exchanges. Get the drift. In this world you need to pay for what you want. Too bad Sumit sacrificed his life as payment.
