I believe there are a lot of key phrases used in the Jan. 26th, 2008 write up in the Star Pheonix.
First, "model prisoner"-let him keep modelling behind lock and key where we know we are safe.
Then they say Larose "is not currently at risk while in the psychiatric centre"- who's to say what will happen when he is released?
It is also written about "the best case scenario" is a "gradual release into the community"-maybe for him but what about the family and community members if he accidentally forgets to take his medication? Who is going to be held resposible to make sure that he takes this medication every single day? It will be a very devestating lesson to be learned if they can not force him to take his meds.
May 28th marks the 6th anniversary to the wrongful death of "Gopher" (David Kennedy) and Herb Sayers and to the family, the wounds are still raw and I'm sure this does not help them heal.

I know this guy, he was always a threat in or out of prison. People with mental issues are prescribed drugs- granted not all drugs work on each idvidual, but the problem is they don't take their meds. And nobody monitors this.
Think he or Selena Nicotine deserve more chances...just how many people do they have to kill before deemed unfit to be in any society? Maybe when parents stop having kids while hooked on crack or alcoholics and giving birth to all these damaged kids things might get better. But It won't. If people had to deal with fetal alcohol kids, teens or adults- or saw the huge mental and social issues these people face...and how they can not function in normal society, more would be done. But probably the majority are Native and the white people would rather give to the food bank and NOT deal with them. Nobody can rehabilitate these people, and soon as out , they will kill again.

I feel heartbroken for the "Kennedy" family. What they have to relive as this murderer walks the streets of North Battleford when he is released for "Good Behavior". And thats exactly what he will do...Walk the streets, what about David Kennedy?? Can he walk the streets anymore, can he watch his daughter grow up to graduate, get married and have children. His life was taken from him at the age of 25 years old. He was just beginning his life when it was brutually taken from him. He had just purchased a home, received a promotion at work. What about HIM...and his family. They should keep Layne Larose locked up in the Saskatchewan Hospital because guaranteed another family is going to go through what the "Kennedy" family is going through right now when Layne Larose is released into the community.

something needs to drastically change. Since the voices of community members of small town North Battleford haven't been heard, I pray that the mother of that poor boy that got beheaded by that psycho Li makes some noice. Yes, some people are mentally unstabe and they are sick but does that give them the right to get away with murder? I don't think so! Yes, they do need help and I agree that they deserve to get that (they need to get it), but they still need to pay for what they did. After getting the therapy, drugs etc. they are considered sane enough to be allowed back into society, instead they should be deemed sane enough to face the consequences of their wrong. doings.

Well in my opinion this man is sick and can not be healed by our doctors giving him medication and telling us that things will be better things will not be better things will never b ethe same so what if our family takes medication from the doctors and feels it will fix us it will bring our family members who we lost back I DONT THINK SO!! this man and all involved have issues what if it was a higher up person like judge, doctor, and they lost TWO of their family members to something like this would it be ok if the doctors gave them medication and said he could come back out into the community how would they feel seeing the guy who killed their family member walking a free man and all he had to do was pretend he was ok under doctors medication knowing that they will never be able to see members of their family again but can see him everyday and he could see his family everyday think about it really it would not feel so nice!!

You people saying that he is incapable of being rehabilitated make me sick. Who will make sure he will take his medicine? He will, being paranoid and delusional isn't fun. I would imagine he is terrified of slipping back into a psychosis. When your ability to function in everyday life is contingent upon taking a few pills, you don't forget. I am sorry for the victims and their families, but it is irritating to see such ignorance in regards to a mental illness.

This is not ignorance, this is reality. this man killed two people, sick or not he deserves to spend the rest of his life in jail. what life do the two people he killed have? exactly, he should have the same thing no life.mental illness is not an excuse and should not be used as one. this makes me sick.

Well that's nice and let's all be happy that the subject is doing well mentally. He has served his "sick" time in a hospital and now lets have him serve his criminal time. Not all mentally ill people kill other people. Just like not all drunks kill someone. Something can be a mitigating factor but that does not have to invade all aspects of the consequences.

I don't mean to be insensitive to your situation but you well know that some people take medication and other people never find a drug (s) that they can live with. They experience too many of the side effects and it is naive to think it works as you suggest. How do you satisfy others that he will change his ways, take his meds, is it even possible.

In the previous thread I said that not all cases are the same. I have know schizophrenics who would never ill anyone and others ... Not all have paranoid delusions and they are most likely to find themselves in that position.

Daily Horoscope for December 5

Cancer

You're much more in command of your emotions today, which is just as well. You can get a lot done, as your personal energy and natural empathy is high. You'll be especially effective when it comes to clearing your desk of all the paperwork, and I'm not talking about shoving it on to the floor, either. If you've been waiting for news of a pay rise or bonus, it could arrive any moment now.
