Patty Hogan would have been a woman not a man. Paddy, maybe.

Anyway, I expect there really are unexplainable things or that engaging in such story telling is a way to force us to think about how we would survive ie what we would do if confronted by something with powers etc.

Had an uncle who completely believed in them.I could tell when he joked,but he insisted they were real..I'm still from Missouri..
