The federal government declared the Hells Angels a criminal organization in 2005. They haven’t been active in Nova Scotia for several years, but have two sanctioned clubs on the ground here.

There are the Highlanders, a group of about 20 from Havre Boucher near Antigonish, and Fall River’s East Coast Riders, who have 10 members.

He said they perform tasks for the Angels in exchange for support and there is a "level of trust" among the bikers."

"To be sanctioned by that club and to be a support club means that you would support and declare your support for a criminal organization."

Hells Angels are not a criminal organization

The Hell Angels Motorcycle Club is not a criminal organization and its members deserve the same rights as anyone else.

On March 17, 2008 a landmark ruling by a B.C. judge ruled that "a full-patch Hells Angels member and two of his associates are not members of a criminal organization."

The trial was a key test of new 'federal anti-gang legislation', and if the Hells Angels were deemed a criminal organization, police would have been able to seize their assets.

There are so many false urban legends around the Hells Angels, all perpetrated by law enforcement and eaten up by the public. The Angels are an easy target. It is not fair that a select few have rights violated, including those prohibiting "arbitrary detention" and guaranteeing "security of the person."

A recent decision in Alberta (only Alberta for now), has some legal experts saying publicly that it could eventually place limits on the way police try to control the movement of biker gangs.

The fact that the Hells Angels and other clubs are prepared to spend so much time fighting the police in court indicates that they do have rights.

I maintain that these cases revolve around fundamental rights that all citizens are entitled to, whether they drive motorcycles or not, or whether they are north or south of the 49th parallel.

Hells Angels have been convicted of murder, drug dealing, pimping, gun running and every other type of crime that offers them money. The Government of Canada has declared them a Criminal organization. Sounds fair to me.It's time to shut them all down.

They are SCUM.

I agree with the Horseman (to a point). It is well established that the Hells Angels (per se) are a criminal organization with links to multi faceted international crime.

Where it becomes unclear is to what degree of association with this club do people become part of it.

Must one be a member? A member of any motorcycle club? Someone who speaks to a member knowingly or unknowingly? Someone who rides a motorcycle?

I know the example's a stretch but the limits must be defined to avoid persecution of innocent or at least unassociated parties.

Horsemen are not always adept at that definition and in their zeal have been known to overreact. There must be checks and balances.

It sounds like this biker club is helping with the laundry, with legit businesses. They are walking a tight wire as I'm sure investigations would happening, especially if the press publishes that info.

If the Hells Angels were a political party would they be a legal criminal organization or would they have to join one of Canadas 3 Criminal Political Parties

Hmmmm let's see, the police in canada have a history of crimmal activitly that rivals the crimes you listed about the Hells Angels and I don't hear anyone declaring them a criminal organization. Maybe you better add the RCMP to that list bud.

They are SCUM.
The RCMP have charged 3 former senior employees of the Ontario Provincial Police Association, a Toronto lawyer and a U.S. citizen with fraud over $5,000 and money laundering.

Three Ontario Provincial Police officers from the Leeds County detachment have been charged along with eight other people after an 18-month drug trafficking investigation.

A long time member of the Ontario Provincial Police is facing multiple charges of assault and uttering threats following what police are describing as a case of road rage in Cambridge.

A former police officer is facing a number of charges, including four related to alleged sexual offences dating to 2009. A retired OPP constable, age 70 was arrested last month on the strength of the sexual assault allegations. Two of the charges he is facing are for sexual assault. An additional charge deals with a sexual offence against a young person, while another is for a sexual offence against a person younger than 16.

Maybe we should shut down the OPP as well.
