The cuts, not freeze, Deb Matthews has approved to doctors compensation is based on false information. Along with the cutbacks on doctors compensation and healthcare spending, as doctors join the system, and given that there will be no added funding for their compensation, existing doctors are being expected to pay for their income. Just imagine if current teachers had to pay for new teachers joining the education system. That would never fly! Just because technology in health care delivery has increased, doctors are using this technology to work harder and help more patients than ever before. Now they are being asked, no demanded, to work harder and longer, and if they work too hard, and help too many patients, they will be slapped with clawbacks! Hmmm, that sounds a little like a disguised cap to me. This plan also penalizes efficiency. Deb Matthews and her so called advisors have obviously not done their homework. They keep on mentioning doctors are so highly paid. She fails to mention that she is referring to gross billings, not take home pay. Ontario is one of the most expensive places in Canada to run a practice based on several reasons, especially in the GTA. As doctors doctors' compensation is affected, they will have less to support their overhead and staff, which already accounts for expenses prior to take home income. If clinics are forced to close or streamline, there are numerous individuals who will be out of work, not to mention those who externally provide services to clinics. Sounds like a bad idea, especially when we need to be creating jobs. The minister has has failed to mention that funding for MRI and imaging to cut waitlists has already but made so. So now, all the progress that has been made to get patients in to get their MRIs and CT scans in the appropriate time will be set back about a decade. Just imagine having to wait for your tests to not only see if there is a chance you have cancer, but even if you know you have cancer that potentially can be treated, you will have to wait to have your studies which will determine your treatment plan. This means delay in treatment. Sounds scary to me. I don't even want to get into the waste of money in the eHealth and Ornge fiascos which the government has no comment on or wants to take responsibility for. That could have been used to help patients. A lot of smoke and mirrors to distract the voters. So now the government, with Deb Matthews in the lead, is going after the hardworking doctors to try and right the fiscal wrongs it has created. The cutbacks to doctors compensation and to the healthcare system is another example of the Liberal government bad decisions which will negatively affect us all. "Please, get the right consultation and advice" is what I say to the government! " Please don't ruin our valued Canadian healthcare system due to politics and the provincial governments mistakes. Come clean and take responsibility! Once these changes go into final effect, no future government will reverse them. They will just blame the previous government. We will be stuck with these changes. They will hurt us all, especially the aging population which have paid their dues and taxes with the promise that their government would not fail them when they needed. C'mon Deb, do the right thing.
