A former Teen Challenge student exposes this abusive Christian alcohol and drug program. Although seen by many as a worthwhile organization, Teen Challenge has a dark side, one of pathological abuse and an obsession with the almighty dollar.

As a person suffering from the chains of addiction; I can attest to the fact that in order to break the chain of addiction that holds you, you must be prepared for a tough road of treatment. This may often feel like abuse, strict rules or unfairness to ones right. But in fact if you are like me and have been abusing drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex and sin for over 40 years... a few months of hard core treatment are well worth the reward of an additional 20-30 years of life, love, joy and happiness free from addictions.
To understand that this is a life long disease, equal to that of a life threatening allergy (means an unusual sensitiveness or reaction to a substance; i.e. foods, liquids, alcohol, drugs, etc.) I mean as example... I love hazel nuts; but if I eat a hazel nut my tongue thickens, my throat swells and my breathing gets cut off... I get the same reaction from alcohol as it affects my brain, reaction time, ability to make rational choices. It is even a faster reaction when I take a puff of crack cocaine; I become a weird freak', fearful of nothing, respectful of no-one and as lawless as one can be to the point of disrespecting women and everyone in my path at that time.
In order to break the chain of addiction that has destroyed my family, taken my children from me, ended my career and basically left me homeless, lonely and broken... I am ready for a little hard core treatment and strict guidelines to push and pull me in the right direction with God at the head of the addictions team as my higher power.
I can only speak for myself but for what I have read in this post about Teen Challenge being abusive and profit seeking; all I can say is based on my past 10 years of trying to beat addiction by going to Detox 7 times, 2 - 28 day rehab programs, 2 trips to Lone Water Farm Rehabilitation center for 4-6 month terms and countless... I mean countless AA and NA meetings; I can say that the author of this negative Teen Challenge article is either not a true addict who is ready and has the sincere desire to 'stop using' about breaking the chain of addiction and willing to do anything to 'stop using'... or they (You) are quitting for someone other then yourself.
When an addict is truly ready to 'stop using' for no one else (not your parents, your wife, children, no-one but yourself) and have admitted to themselves that they are truly powerless over their addiction will they begin the life long recovery from the addiction...
God Bless the person who authored the original negative comment about Teen Challenge and may the Lord Jesus Christ work in your life to open the eyes of your heart that you may see that there is a wonderful life free from addictions if you are willing to do the things necessary to defeat this disease... may God be with you now!

Teen Challenge does not believe that alcoholism or addiction to other drugs is a disease; they believe that it is caused by sin an can be prayed away completely as quickly as your first day there.

I spent a year in Teen Challenge; for the last nine months there I gathered evidence which has, to date, enabled me to keep two Teen Challenge locations from opening (Eureka, Ca., and one in Georgia).

AA works. Teen Challenge lies, cheats and steals.

You are absolutely correct! I am not sure if you are speaking about the US or Canada or both. I worked for the Canadian (Ontario) branch for a number of years and what a HUGE disappointment. There are many that worked for TC that had the right heart and loved the men, but the Directors and CEO are crooks. It is all about money at the sake of the men. The churches are totally fooled by these smooth talking liars! I have been away from TC for a few years now but will take advantage of any opportunity to see that organization exposed for what they are. The men are brain washed into thinking they will be un-Godly if they say anything. What a manipulating organization.

This guy is an example of the men getting brainwashed in Tc not to think there is anything wrong with the dishonest money grubbing that goes on. I worked for TC and discussed that I didn't see what was really happening. When I questioned them on their dealings, I was let go after years of working with them and they took the time to talk to every Pastor in the region not to talk with me. How is that for Christian? 5 Pastors told me that TC tried to tarnish my character....these churches on longer support TC. They should be exposed!
