CALFRAC WELL SERVICES

Calfrac Well services is a definite SELL!!!
The reason for this is multi-fold.
Number 1 reason is that Calfrac initially could brag about having the best people in the fracing industry working for them. This is NO LONGER true.
Over the past year a large number of highly experienced and compotent field personnel have simply packed up and left. The company at one time attracted the best and brightest employees in fracturing now they do not.
The bestfield supervisor, Yuri Romanow, left in disgust.
The Russian operation has been ashambles from the start with employees declining to work for the firm in the overseas adventure, the company also picked the wrong partners leading to massive bribes needed to secure and maintain their "exclusive" contract in Russia.
Secondly, the firm is no longer alone in the industry with large numbers of upstart companies coming in and stealing their work. Century Fracing is one example of a compnay that has started and stolen large amounts of Calfrac's work.
Thirdly, Encana, one of Calfrac's largest clients, has severely reduced the number of CBM wells it is producing and this year decided to buy the products, most noteably nitrogen, used in the CBM process themselves causing Calfrac to lose about 45% of the income previously earned from each CBM process. This loss of income has forced the company into the loss column very often during the summer of 2006. With Encana getting tough on its contractors it bodes very poorly for Calfrac.
Fourthly, although privately held prior to the Denison Mines takeover, Calfrac was in huge financial trouble. This during the good times in the oil industry. This fact points to a weakness in Calfrac's management leading to Calfrac being very vulnerable during economic slowdowns in the oilfield sector.
For this reason I advise people to immediately SELL, SELL and SELL Calfrac.

most of the calfrac shops are great to work for they have excellent supervisors and staff, however watch out for the strathmore shop the supervisors there have no respect for the workers, most times guys are over houred and if they complain they sit in the shop as punishment. one supervisor at the christmas party flashed his penis at a guys wife then punched her husband in the face and all he got was a suspension for a week, like come on he should have been fired not only that if it was me i'd be launching a lawsuit agianst the company

You are right on the money in regards to this outfit. I spent 3 years working for them in Red Deer when they first started. It was good, there was lots of work and lots of money to be made. But however no matter how much you sacerficed for the company when it came to getting so time off you were no longer a team player. Maybe the problem is the fact that some of the base managers are glorified truck drivers who kissed the right butt to get where they are (Dave M in ARK)

I believe the Calfrac Guys that stayed with us were really nice and they were polite and friendly, and i really enjoyed being around them. It was a pleasure to meet them and get to know most of them as individuals not just people who stay at our hotel. The people who work for Calfrac are pretty amazing people some with families and some without but they are fun and are honestly good people. We get lots of crews threw here and I honestly have to say they were the best crew I have met or dealt with, they were responible and a joy to have stay with us.. I believe every crew is really over worked and do need time off some have families and the Managers need to realize that they still are people and need a decent amount of time off.

I have worked for calfrac for more than 5yrs in medicine hat. It sounds like the most of these comments are ex employees who have had personal problems with one or more people in the company.Iam not going to argue every fact but this is a job,not a holiday they have always tried to accomadate people in medicine hat as best they can.I agree that in some of the other districts there seems to be weakness in management area, but not all bad.I have to say this to whoever wrote the fist comment Yuri was a great sup but to rate him as the best thats extreme.I still beleive that Calfrac is a good place to work ,and Iam sorry If you think differently.

In past years calfrac was known to be a good place to work, times have changed to laying off half of the feild employees and keeping a massive office staff. At present time they force feild employees to come in to work on their days off abandoning camping trips with familys. In the past they liked to call themselves a family company that does not seem to be the case anymore.Good luck Calfrac good people helped build the company now most of them are gone.

I heard that the shop in Strathmore was shut down recently and that they laid off most of their guys there. Any truth to this rumor?

For the most part, I have only positive things to say about CWS, but as elsewhere in life the few ahole employees & managers do need to just grow up.

Too funny...a lot of disgruntals here! Take a good look at who was layed off and for the most part it is pretty obvious why. Of course there were a few valuable people that lost their jobs, however most of these people are not the ones that have bad things to say about Calfrac. Aren't lay offs just part of this business? Anyone who has been around more than 5 years knows this.

I was an old century employee, I've been with calfrac since the merge of the two company. I think all the service companies are the same difference. There are good and bad things about calfrac. To me the worst part is as the company getting bigger, less attention focus on individual, employee is a just a number, managers don't seem to care about employee's development, but just to get the job done.
It seems like the calfrac and century employee have hard time to get alone, myself is a good example, till this very day, I still couldn't get alone with my supervisor, it doesn't matter how hard I try, I am always being left out by him. there are times I did good job, nobody appreciated it, my co-worker is just trying to get through the day,he bitch about his job every single second. I have a really hard time to motivate myself under this kind circumstances. I know no organization is perfect, but with more trust and encouragement between employee, I am sure Calfrac will be a better place to work. We all dress green in the filed, why can't we just start acting like a team, stop pushing the responsibility, think of yourself first before pointing fingers to others. I don't enjoy working for Calfrac, but I truly hope this company can get onto a better direction, so the employee will be happier, and I am sure the frac job will go smoother.

Its funny you heard people don't get days off, lots of people actually want to WORK days off to make more money, but its not possible almost since they hired a lot of new employees, so me working my days off means someone that is on days on is sitting in the shop. If you do your rotation of 3 weeks work 2 weeks off, you WILL get your 2 weeks off no questions asked. As far as wage, I think starting salary is about 2500 for rotational (not too sure!) and bonuses range depending on revenue of the ticket, most are "max" which you would make 500$ a day.

Interested in understanding how the bonuses work and how soon you can achieve bonuses. I do understand the salary to be as stated by "employee" but do you see bonuses immediately or after a certain time working?

probably 15 days out and six days off as a field operator starting around 33k base plus bonus expect long, long hours and to live out of a hotel for 15 days but they pick up the tab for that and pay $54 per diem every day. bonus structure is about $166 per stage pumped after your crew and you not calling off day(s) pump 20 stages per month the bonus kicks in. you will work in the cold, hot, wet, windy, everything but close lighting and possibly not work in heavy freezing rain as to dangerous.
