Racism at Tim Hortons

this type of racism should not be tolerated. i am not native american but i feel for these people. the employee who posted the sign should have recieved more then a reprimation

Racism occurs anywhere in the city. It happens in restaurants, department stores, parks, grocery stores, banks, and even in your own backyard. Racism is so rampant in Lethbridge, it attracted white supremacists to this city recently, which was broadcast on the local news.

That is so funny, I came to Canada 15 years ago and I have never experience any racial discrimination towards myself from any "White" people, unfortunately, the people that called me "Chin" "Chinaman" "Dead Jap", etc. are usually from Aboriginal people or other "Non-White" people. How funny eh!

well.. i just recently moved to lethbridge from ontario, ad noticed the natives here aren't properly educated on the proper terms for other cultures, i found it quiet disturbing.. like you dont call an asian a "chinaman" but thats what they were taught.. and i triedto tell them say asian, or just what they are, korean malaysian, japanese, chinese... you know.

i decided to comment because i have recently been discriminated against for being "indian" .. but i am proud to be native american, and everyone should be proud of what decent they are. all my life i hadnt noticed racism going on around me, until i started to hang out with natives around here, then the racism started.. so i go to school everyday a proud native, wearing clothing from my culture :) i have this one bag and it has native designs on it, and i love it. i dont care if people know im native, deal with it.. i cant change so you'll like me. and i have NEVER been racist, so why does this happen to me? because we couldnt be your slaves? all people are created equal. people need to put there egos aside.

I am Native.
I live in Lethbridge.
I was born in Standoff.
I have not yet completed my Masters in Education but I consider myself educated.
I am deeply sorry to the person from Asia that has been racially name called by my community.
I am not hurt by the "No Drunk Indians" sign posted.
I will not stop buying my coffee there.

When you know better you do better and perhaps that person did not know better.

The Government of Canada Pays for my internet. But really I know that all Canadian citizens who pay taxes are really paying for it! The government tries to hide that from us! So thank you Canadian citizens for the free internet, house, car, tax free gas, cigarettes, booze and more! I'm proud to be a Canadian because I get paid for it! Oh wait i just got paid $20 USD to say that! Whoops yah thought the government paid us in Canadian EH! Well Big smoke if thats yer real name. yah need to brush up on yer english! I really don't think you are taking your masters in Education! and I don't think your native with a silly name like that.

Now lets get serious!!!

Racism is a world issue!

We are all guilty of it.

It's usually not until you have been a victim of it or have a friend who was a victim of it do you really understand what it's like. We are brought up in a society that is constantly changing our ways of thinking. Lets go back to grade school. How many times have you told or someone told you a joke about three people and their nationalties. Or the dirty knees song etc. Those are still in schools today. Most children really do not understand what they are saying when they repeat these except that they are entertaining. So it is not until later in life you actually look back and understand the true meaning behind the jokes and ryhmes.

It is through educating our children about these issues that will change the way people look at others. It will never go away completely but will over time be less frequent!

Just my thoughts and I am not full native, I do not live on a reserve, I am part Native Canadian but not full. So Melanie Big Smoke please do not impersonate Native people its not polite. You should quite smoking in this forum
