“With the limited resources we have . . . our resources are better served on the highways getting the larger loads.”

Just outside an eastern Ontario gravel quarry that has become a symbol for recent aboriginal unrest sits a spray-painted plywood sign offering bagged cigarettes for sale - cheap. via Calgary Sun

Been to Deseronto area & treated others with respect & got respect back & understand the Quarry Issue Too

Here's a News Release We Got from Whitey Canada area as We have a Common Enemy & this One's Controlled Out of Brazil South America

"Ontario Greenbelt Alliance" Call to action E-card campaign

Proposed Quarry in Flamborough - please send out E-cards in support of FORCE

Background

St Marys CBM wants to develop a new greenfield quarry in Flamborough, part of the City of Hamilton. Its development application challenges both the Greenbelt Plan and the Clean Water Act. The proposed site sits in the Natural Heritage System of the Greenbelt amidst Provincially Signficant Wetland Complexes, significant woodlands, and species habitat.

There is a Permit to Take Water (PTTW) application before MOE now for St Marys to conduct a pilot test on its unproven and theoretical mitigation system. We expect MOE will be making its decision on this PTTW application in the next few weeks.

In November 2006 when the application was first made, our community supporters sent in over 600 letters expressing concern along with the support of our local councillor, the FORCE hydrogeology submission and a letter from Environmental Defence. The proposed quarry puts at risk the groundwater-based municipal well for the community of Carlisle along with thousands of individual wells serving homes, farms, and businesses, and our local schools.

In late October 2007, the Hamilton Medical Officer of Health's office used a rare public health notification to MOE to register their concerns about reasonable and probable risk of a public health issue. In December 2007, the Environment Commissioner of Ontario used our case, and its drinking water and natural feature implications, to highlight the problems with the aggregate planning and approvals process.

In January, FORCE and Environmental Defence ran full page ads in the Hamilton Spectator and the regional Metroland weeklies asking the Premier to Stop the Quarry. We are now asking our immediate community to once again voice their concerns. And, we are asking for the help and support of the Ontario Greenbelt Alliance to send e-cards as part of this next wave of our campaign.

Please visit the weblink below or www.StopTheQuarry.ca to learn more and to send an e-card to the Premier.
