from a time when water covered the whole Okanagan Valley- Salty water's connected to today's Pacific Ocean- where whales, dolphin like fish swam through out the fiord's & mountain valley's we see today. This was a time when any human life lived higher up on the sides- & hundreds of islands dotted the landscapes. The glacier's had been retreating for thousands of years- huge inland sea's existed- as time passed the mountain valley's some blocked by retreating ice damn some valley's like the Okanagan at OK Falls area. Dreamwalker & his people lived at that time & his story based on historic truths mixed with a bit of fiction is about to unfold.. this part of the story took place 4,000 years ago... & more is coming.... A "ice dam" blocked the southern part, holding back a large inland sea. Whales, Sea animals swam above the valley - the shores above the cliffs of Penticton BC.. & mountains like Benson & Dillworth & Knox where just islands in this huge inland Sea.. The cliffs around Penticton, the way they were formed by water draining down- where as south of OK Falls & Oliver the hillside benches are rounded, from high speed water rushing along the valley flushing everything in it's path, for ever changing the landscape as the inland Sea found a new level, as several lakes, & then just run offs to the glacier's as fresh water. Trapping any & all fish, Sea creatures within the fresh waters forcing them to adapt or die.. -- whether it was a "astroid impact" or a "polar shift" from "Ice melting & the weight shifting from melted water migrating - what ever the cause - the result was "tectonic plate movement" that opened huge fissures & the ash, particulate, rocks boulder's where blown high into the atmosphere - blocking the sun, creating the "nuclear winter" syndrome for large portions, but not all the planet.. that is what caused the ice covering North America. It would take hundreds of years or more for all the particulates & ash to finally fall back onto the earth, covering the Ice, snow & allowing the Sun's radiant heat to finally start to melt the ice glacier's that covered our lands, including the Okanagan.. It was as this Ice melted over ions of time, that the inland seas & huge bodies of water developed. In the Okanagan a late melting Ice dam at OK Falls area, blocked the channel's & the water reached levels that connected them to the todays Pacific Ocean.. after 6 to 10,000 years -- about 4,000 years ago, this particular Ice dam gave loose & the inland Sea poured down into the Great Basin Desert to forever change it's and out landscapes.. evidence ... today... that is the backdrop for the Photo collection I have developed to show these features, as the backdrop to a interesting personal story of how the first man to walk down into the valley when it appeared & how he was chosen to be the one to walk down into this new uncovered Sea bottom .. -- The Phanta Sea - which when blocked by the ice dam, ran out the Green Mountain Valley to the Simillkameen River Valley & out towards what we call the Pacific Ocean.. but after Ice dam broke -- the level dropped so as the Green Mountain channel was to high, & water continues to flow south & south west instead of west ... as before.. the dam burst.. also cities like Penticton where formed when silt, dirt & debris came from the Green Mountain Valley when the water started to run back into the lower Okanagan Valley, also on the other side of Penticton - the dirt, debris flowed in from the east, and where they both met in the middle -- Penticton was able to built on a "Ithsmiss" ( my spelling)- Osoyoos & Haynes point out into Osoyoos lake is a "Ithismiss" ( Land bridge)-- Oyama - parts of Wynfield -- all land bridges left after the big deluge as the water's displaced sand, rocks & moved everything around, huge water falls from the benches, all where a part to the lands before the Okanagan... the photo's I have will show, & Dreamwalker with his flute (carved from spear) will fill in many spaces in the pre-history to the history of our beloved South Okanagan Valley... in BC Canada...
