Unfortunately this option is the last thing China, Japan,+ many ASEAN nations want in regards to various disputed islands and their resources-precious underwater seafloors.

As under pre- or post-"nationalism", some kind of workable
"pecking order" for OWG-NWO must be established among world Nations-States whom desire expanded influence + authority in the age of alleged post-Nationalist "Globalism".

"Post-US" China sees its "Manifest Destiny" as the One-n-Only Successor to the alleged "weak/declining" post-Cold War, "sole" Superower USA - as such, and as per any MilPol aggressive nation [old or new] in world history, China desires permanent and unchallenged strategic access for the PLA into WESTPAC, NORPAC< and other vital world shipping lanes. IT HAS DIRECTLY LINKED THE ULTIMATE SUCCESS OR FAILURE OF ITS AFOREMENTIONED POST-US "MANIFEST DESTINY" IN EAST ASIA AND THE PACIFIC OCEAN TO ACHIEVING FORMAL REUNIFICATION WID TAIWAN, where it hopes to establish strategic PLA Missle and Conventional Milbases on the island. To that end, China desires both the Diaoyus [Japan = Senkaku Islands] and Okinawa Archipelago to cover the approaches to-n-from its future PLA Milbases on Taiwan.

I have argued or inferred times before that America's allies in East Asia, e.g. JAPAN and SOUTH KOREA, etc. are unwilling or reluctant to take over significant responsibilities for US-led GMD-TMD UNLESS THEY ARE ALLOWED TO DEVELOP NUCLEAR AND OTHER STRATEGIC WEAPONS IN THEIR OWN RIGHT. One can see where such a development would worry ambitious China. CHINA WANTS ACCESS INTO WESTPAC AND NORPAC, ETC. BUT ALSO DOES NOT WANT JAPAN OR SOUTH KOREA, ESPEC JAPAN, TO EVER DEVELOP NUCLEAR WEAPONS THAT CAN CHALLENGE ITS POST-US HEGEMONY.

Peace-centric "Status Quo" is nice to dream or publicly talk about, but in reality few iff any Govts. in East Asia and ASEAN truly want it.

" Analysts are also urging that a bilateral diplomatic hotline be set up to help resolve future crises, since neither China, Japan nor the U.S. want the Senkakus rift to degenerate into warfare."

In this situation people in all parties should demonstrate that the pen is mightier than the sword, that intelligence and understanding is better than bloodshed of countless people throughout Asia. If an acceptable solution for both parties haven't yet emerge, then take time to think things over until it emerge. If not this month then maybe a couple months later. If in a few months a solution acceptable to both parties is not available then allow a third party such as the international court to research the histories of the island to come up with a solution. More heads are better than one or two. The person or group that arrive at a solution acceptable to both parties should be rewarded for saving Asia from unlimited tears and bloodshed.
