Norval no place for a brick quarry

The Norval Community Association is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1974, with a purpose to protect and preserve the quality of life of the citizens of Norval. The Brampton Brick shale extraction operation proposed site is located on the town line between Halton and Peel. This location is extremely close to our historic village and surrounding rural and historic homes.

Brampton Brick purchased this parcel of land in a designated greenbelt, on a significant pioneer homestead rich in local heritage.

Our cultural and natural heritage is closely tied to the citizens who settled this area in 1820, locating along Winston Churchill Boulevard, Hwy. 7 and Adamson Street with the village once known as McNabsville and later Norval.

Adamson Street was named after Lt-Gen. Sir Peter Adamson, Knight of the Portuguese Order of the Tower and Sword, a well known and honoured settler. In 1830, General Adamson understood the needs of this storied village, and donated land to the community during the early development of this settlement.

Brampton Brick’s quarry proposal is a blatant disregard for the citizens who make their home along the proposed route, and to Norval’s Upper Canada College Outdoor School, the many cyclists travelling this scenic road, and to the tourists who travel from all over the world to visit the former home of famous Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery who lived in Norval from 1926 to 1935. Brampton Bricks proposed truck route would see aggregate trucks hauling shale directly into the heart of our historic village and on surrounding rural roads.

Brampton Brick could cultivate its own identity and public profile by preserving this area rich in natural and cultural features for future generations to celebrate.
