A Hamilton man has been charged with tampering with an escalator at a Burlington shopping centre.

Halton Regional Police say two weeks into a province-wide strike by elevator technicians, two men placed screws in the tracks of an escalator at Mapleview Centre, causing it to shut down.

John Dean Fournier, an Otis Elevator employee from Hamilton is facing charges. Police have not yet laid charges against the second suspect
