No more public/private

Re “Province should go private: Duncan”(Antonella Artuso, April 25): Former Ontario finance minister Dwight Duncan now supports increased privatization of public services. He finally acknowledged the Ornge air ambulance scandal was a good example of how privatized service delivery can cost the public billions. Bizarrely, he then tried to say privatization or public-private partnerships aren’t a bad idea. Given his track record, he should know how much public-private partnerships have cost Ontario residents. And there are plenty of examples: The private gas plant scandal, Brampton Civic Hospital billion-dollar P3 boondoggle, the millions lost in Hamilton before P3 water and wastewater were made public again. The simple truth is Ornge isn’t an exception to a rule, it is an illustration of the rule. Privatizing public service means diverting public money away from public services and into private profits.
