An outdoor grow op worth $175,000 was found by Durham Police on Thursday morning in a Whitby conservation area.
Police say they were tipped by the Lynde Shores Conservation Area Authority, and went to the field with two K-9 units shortly before 6 a.m. where they allegedly found two men attending to 175 marijuana plants.
The suspects fled into the forest, followed by the K-9 units. After the first was found, the second gave chase for more than a kilometre before he was found hiding in the bushes.
Police said both suspects received medical attention for dog bites they received during their arrest, and officers were treated for injuries in hospital.
Zhufu Xiao, 33, and Shen-Feng Ke, 45, of Toronto and Markham, respectively, are charged with production of a controlled substance and escaping lawful custody.
They were held for a bail hearing
