Acton woman charged in $211K fraud
An Acton woman has been charged with theft over $5,000 in connection with misappropriation of $211,000 from a Guelph business.
Guelph Police say they were contacted by a business in May about the missing funds. Police investigation revealed between Nov. 2008 and May 2010 an employee of the company redirected the company’s funds to her own personal bank account. Police did not release the name of the company.
An Acton woman turned herself into police Wednesday.
Charged with theft over $5,000 is Bonnie Brake, 36, of Acton

I can't believe someone in our town is capable of doing such a dishonest, dispicable act. I'm certain the only remorse this woman feels is that she got caught.$211 000 is a lot of money especially to steal especially in such a short time frame. I hope she gets serious jail time for this...the rest of the community works hard for their money and it really ticks me off when I see someone so lazy, dishonest, and down right stupid take the easy way out.

Does anyone know the status of this case?

What an absolute moron. I hope she gets locked up and has to pay the company back. I looked this woman up and it looks like she has kids...what a fine example she us for them. Hopefully they go in foster care while she is in jail.

I would love to know the status of this. It says she was to appear back in court in January.

1st mistake - stealing 200k
2nd mistake - depositing into your own bank account
3rd mistake - not stopping at 100k when you had already got away with it
4th mistake - living in Acton

Ok last one was harsh but I have been to Acton and am not surprised this came from someone living there. Though am surprised because 200k in Acton is equal to 500k elsewhere.

What a loser. Seriously putting the money into your own account...lol.

I haven't heard anything about this case in the news...she probably got off. But I'm sure we'll see her name in the news again.

People like this always find other ways to scam companies again.

She didn't get off. Case is in the courts and she will likely get jail time for it.
She stole cheques from customers and deposited them into her account via an ATM. The bank also bore some responsibility for not scrutinizing the cheques.

I know this woman. World class loser. No remorse. A compulsive liar and has stolen from other companies. Maybe she's a reincarnation of Bonnie & Clyde. The court will let her off easy and she'll do it again. What a great system we have in Canada, eh?

Ok so to recap the stupidness

1. Lives in Acton - sorry this was the bottom of my list before but reconsidered moving it up the list.

2. Stole 200K in a town that the average salary is probably $18000/yr and didn't think it would get noticed?

3. Didn't just steal money but used other peoples cheques to do it where it would be easily traceable.

4. teaches people they can steal almost a quarter of a million dollars and not get jail time if its your first offense. So if its your first one make it a good one.

I am curious about the husband and if he can't be held liable too if he knew she was stealing. How does he not notice that they all of a sudden have all this extra money and knows he isn't providing it.

I know this woman as well and was personally affted by her stealing and lying! I worked with her a few years ago. She is a compulsive liar and has some major mental problems. She ended up stealing almost 100 000 from our employer. She was never charged but because of her actions a lot of innocent people almost lost their jobs. This is actually her second time stealing a large amount of money but only the first time being charged. She has no remorse about the people she has hurt with her lies. She has no shame either parading around town still lying like crazy. I hope she ends up paying the full price this time!!!

Sounds like Bonnie has gotten away with stealing large amounts of money from several people for quite some time. Hopefully she will pay the full price this time around.

I would encourage the people who have been affected personally by her lack of ethics to report her previous stealings to the authorities.

It sounds like she's only being charged for her latest stealing and has gotten away with stealing large amounts of money for quite sometime.

Nancy,

I have lived in Acton for nearly 6 years now, and granted it might not be everyone's "cup of tea" I have been extremely happy here, there are some really kind decent folks living in our little town, and yes you were harsh in judging Acton based on one persons misdeeds - not everyone here are thieves, liars etc., Every little town has good and bad, and I am sure Oakville is no different.
