Ice damage closes Oakville parks
Oakville Beaver

By David Lea
Town parks and trails were not the only places closed by the Dec. 21-22 ice storm with Bronte Creek Provincial Park also currently shut down until further notice.

A voicemail message left for those who contact the park states the ice storm has created unsafe conditions and power outages there.

The message said the park would definitely be closed Dec. 27, 28 and 29.

It is unclear at this time whether New Year’s Eve celebrations planned at Bronte Creek Provincial Park will move ahead as scheduled.

In a press release issued Friday by Norm Miller, communications advisor for Conservation Halton, announced that a New Year’s Eve Hoopla event at Mountsberg Conservation Area has been cancelled and the conservation area itself will be closed until Jan. 2 due to damage from the ice storm.

Miller said the ice storm has resulted in the closure of all Conservation Halton Parks, except Glen Eden, until Jan. 2.

Updates will be made as Conservation Halton staff work to clear trails of debris and power is restored where needed.
