Two teenagers face robbery charges after American runners taking part in an overnight relay race were robbed with a pellet gun in Oakville early Saturday.
Halton police said a male runner was heading west on Lakeshore Rd. W. when he was approached by two men. The two men allegedly demanded his money and brandished a gun, which turned out to be a BB gun, before pushing him to the ground.
Other runners saw the incident and attempted to intervene, police said.
One of the men then turned and allegedly threatened the other runners with the pellet gun before firing several shots.
One pellet grazed a woman’s nose but all the other shots missed, police said. No medical treatment was needed.
The accused fled on foot but police found them nearby.
Police said the runners, who were all visiting Canada from the United States to take part in the relay race, continued on with the race after the incident.
Justin Culos and Luka Zivkov, both 18 and from Oakville, are charged with robbery with a firearm and assault, among other charges.
Both suspects are due in court Sunday morning for a bail hearing
