Election candidate eligibility rules need to change: reader

Dear Editor:

I read with great consternation that Tony Lambert is running for local and regional councillor this fall.

I believe there’s clearly a need for change in eligibility rules when someone can make errors in judgment so profound, mistakes so egregious, that they’re ousted from council, only to be allowed to run again in the next election less than a year later.

When one considers that anyone who’s late in reporting finances from one election is prohibited to run in the next one, it seems odd that someone physically removed from one council is permitted to run for the same body directly afterward.

"An outsider who proudly calls himself 'The Knife' is behind a first-time candidate who doesn't have what it takes,"

Stephen Sparling, a former halton regional councillor & friend of our local mayor is a supporter of Adams, wrote in an email Friday.

Sparling continued: "If we want to build a strong, inclusive and positive Conservative riding association and appeal to voters,

we need to run open and transparent meetings that welcome long-time and new members, not consistently exclude them."
