Four Peel Police officers now face criminal charges after an off-duty brawl at a Brampton banquet hall last year.

Two constables and a sergeant were charged after a Nov. 30 incident that left one 62-year-old man with a fractured nose and minor scrapes and bruises, according to a release from the force Thursday afternoon.

Sgt. Bernard Webber, Const. Darren Barden and Const. Lance Kerec all face charges for assault causing bodily harm and forcible confinement.

A fourth officer, Staff Sgt. Doug Schultz, has been charged with being a party to the offences.

Police said an investigation was initiated by Chief Jennifer Evans “immediately” following the incident and that the officers have been suspended. Under provisions in the Police Services Act, the officers are still receiving pay.

“I immediately launched an investigation into this serious allegation which has resulted in these charges being laid,” Evans says in the release.“I am committed to maintaining the public’s trust and confidence in the Peel Regional Police.”

The officers will appear in Brampton court on April 29
