Impaired driving

Hawkesbury, Canada

#1 Mar 9, 2013

A 23-year-old driver veered off a residential road overnight, sending a BMW sedan soaring through the air and onto the stoop of an Etobicoke home.

Police say the woman was speeding southbound on Martin Grove Rd. around 2 a.m. when she lost control of the car near Rathburn Rd.

The car struck a snowbank, ricocheted off a hydro pole – shearing it off its base in the process – and flew into the air, police said. The car came to rest on the front stoop of a nearby home.

The driver was taken to a local trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The homeowners were uninjured, police said.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a second early morning crash. One person was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving after a T-bone collision at Gilden and Rutherford Rds. shortly after 2 a.m. One person was taken to hospital.
