Halton officer charged

A Halton Police officer has been charged with assault following an on-duty incident in Milton.

On Monday, August 26 2013 at approximately 1 am the officer responded to a disturbance call in the area of Main Street in Milton. While investigating the call it is alleged the officer assaulted a male victim who had been taken into custody by police.

The victim did not suffer significant injuries and did not require medical attention.

Charged with assault is Dwain Newham. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Milton on September 25.
