Toronto police have made a string of arrests after executing a dozen search warrants early Thursday morning for drug-related crime. In total, 12 warrants were executed six in Toronto, three in Peel and three in Hamilton and five people were arrested. Police have yet to release details on the suspects. Const. Wendy Drummond said drugs and cash were seized from the residences, but she could not confirm whether there were any gun-related charges. A team of officers from the Guns and Gangs unit and the Organized Crime unit worked together on the searches in the early hours of Thursday morning. Toronto police conducted another search warrant in Scarborough last night that left a 23-year-old man shot in the leg. However, police confirmed that the warrant was not related to their larger investigation. The Special Investigations Unit is now looking into the police involvement in the mans injuries. In Brampton, Peel police executed a similar warrant late Wednesday night, arresting two men for illegal gun and drug possession. However, Peel police said their investigation, headed by their own Street Crime Gang unit, was not linked to the Toronto warrants. |
