A former metro Halifax man jailed in British Columbia faces criminal charges on both sides of the country, and on top of all that, he’s supposed to be dead.Jeremy Daniel Oakley, 36, allegedly faked his death four years ago to escape justice. He’s facing child pornography and marijuana possession charges in Nova Scotia and sex-related charges in B.C. Mr. Oakley, whose death notice was placed in The Chronicle Herald’s obituary section in 2004, was to appear in court Tuesday in Nanaimo. Mr. Oakley, who is facing one count of sexual interference and one count of sexual assault in Nanaimo provincial court, was taken to B.C. from Nova Scotia last month on a Canada-wide warrant, said Cpl. Taplin. He’s been in custody at the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre in Victoria. According to the Victoria Times Colonist, there are also warrants for Mr. Oakley in Durham Regional Municipality, just east of Toronto, and Manitoba. Mr. Oakley is to answer to the Nova Scotia charges in Halifax at a later date unless he pleads guilty to them in B.C., in which case they will be dealt with there.
