N.B. bird lovers fight to save troublesome Canada geese

There are 2 comments on the National Post story from Jun 28, 2011, titled N.B. bird lovers fight to save troublesome Canada geese. In it, National Post reports that:

A movement is afoot to save the troublesome Canada geese of Nackawic, N.B. The town has asked Environment Canada for a kill permit to clear out some of the estimated 200 birds that roam the town's 10-acre waterfront park and litter baseball diamonds and footpaths their droppings.

It is with great disgust that I hear on Global TV that your town is taking the stand to destroy a number of Canada Geese-one of our national birds no less. Isn't this the type of thing that leads to extinction? I'd trade you a million times over the honking of geese and their droppings over the roar of 4 wheelers and noisy cars and loud party-goers. Move them into a protected habitat like Ducks Unlimited-why kill them. If Nackawic ever becomes over populated is the Town going to exterminate the elderly or the unemployed because they might be taking up too much space?? Have a heart the geese are only there for a short time and then they leave. Take advantage of their visit use it as an attraction-look toward the positive rather than the negative.
If this is the type if thing that Nackawic does to beautify the town-what a wonderful thing to be put in the local history books for the future generations to contemplate.
Nackawic your reasoning sucks! My vote would be "NO!"
If you think I'm off base consider the fact I live in a urban area where there are foxes bears raccoons and multiple domestic animals- we survive even at local gatherings and baseball diamonds. After all they were here first and just want to survive like the rest of us.
Surely someone employed with the Town of Nackawic can come up with a better solution than the one being purposed-put on your thinking caps rather that looking to become exterminators.

It breaks my heart to think that the leaders and some residents of your community would even consider killing geese that are causing issues in your town. The Canadian Goose....a national symbol. These are not dumb animals, I sugguest you view the movie "Fly Away Home", to witness how intellegent they in fact are, and how hard they work just to survive. Your decision to exterminate them is barbaric, and you are doing more damage to your townÂ’s reputation by your plans to kill the geese than the geese could ever do to you. Surely there is another solution.
