Alright im currently living in Calgary and im looking to possibly move elsewhere; im not too sure yet but i was curious to if anyone could tell me what the people are like in edmonton, weather, if there are lots of job opportunitys aswell as rentals in good areas (i have a dog) so also wondering if there are good dog parks, lots of green space around the city (not just a concrete jungle) and anything else you can tell me about the city.
I really appreciate it, thanks

Don't come to edmonton, seriously. Edmonton is basically Calgary, but with more wannabe cowboys, less interesting places around town to visit, and less home for your dollar.

It's colder than calgary a little bit too.

Calgary has places like 17th ave where you can walk around and relax, whereas edmonton is car-city.

I'm seriously planning on moving down to Calgary after i'm done with the University of Alberta.

Come visit edmonton for a few days if you wanna see what it's like.

Also, our night clubs are better than calgary :)

I grew up in Calgary and left there in the 90's, I live in Edmonton now, but I still visit my parents down there. I can't recommend one over the other, both are heavily dependent on cars, both have their overly trendy areas, Calgary has become a colder place in terms of friendliness, but Edmonton isn't far behind. Calgary has better public transit, if only because they have a complete LRT system.

Edmonton has the river valley and the summer festivals which I find better. Having a huge swathe parkland running through the city is great. The weather isn't that much different, really the only thing is Calgary gets are chinooks in the winter. The average year round temperature is slightly higher in Edmonton.

Job opportunities are definitely here, there's a general shortage of workers; rent is slightly better then in Calgary, but the rental market is still pretty tight.

I just moved here from BC, in Febuary, and I'll tell you what I think as a newcomer. Edmonton is great city! People are friendly on the streets and courteous on the roads. They always let you in, which is pretty amazing for me who's used to Vancouver etiquette (get the F out of my way, Ben Hur attitude). There's something to do all the time, and a festival somewhere in the city everyday of the summer. It's a very family oriented city, and pretty blue collar and down to earth for the most part.
There's Cheap things to do with the kids.....festivals, free swimming pools and more parks than I can say. The city hall and legislature buildings has opened up their fountains as splash pools, and now there's always a place to splash around for the kids. It's such a positive message too. The institutional stuffiness has broken down and it seems as if the city fully welcomes families and their kids when they do stuff like that. In Kelowna, I never felt very comfortable taking my kid out. It wasn't terribly kid friendly so I found this little addition to the city to be so awesome.
I spent the parade by city hall. I watched the parade from a bench while drinking lattes, while my toddler swam around in the city hall pool. Can you get any better than that?
They say the crime is bad here, but I've never seen it. Our vehicles has never been broken into, even while parked for long periods of time in the city. I feel safe about my girls walking to the park, as most people around here are families. I can sit in the city at night without fear of gangs or freaks. The benches are still there and not vandalized! For the most part, I think it's pretty safe. I actually feel safer here than the small town I left. But it was Williams Lake so that isn't saying much. LOL>

Moving to Edmonton = bad idea.
Despite what anyone wants to say, the economy is bound to drop within a few years.

Stay in Calgary.
I'd live there over Edmonton if I had the chance.

I was reading all the posts and really have to say....WOW! I'm born and raised in Edmonton and really, been all around the world and nothing compares. Yes, it is cold but if you find the right places, people and venues this place rocks! I have a friend who lives in Vancouver and his perception of Edmonton are bunch of hicks. Boy that really makes me upset. I have to educate him and realize that there are wonderful people that live here just got to look at the right places. Candace, hats off to you sister for being a true Edmontonian. You said it right about how it is. Good on you!

Edmonton is great. I love the art festivals. Check out the Whyte Avenue Art Walk which runs every July.( www.art-walk.ca ). I participate in it every year. Also, there are so many beautiful murals to view and galleries. If you would like to see some of my artwork, please go to www.southsidesavvy.com . Thank you.

I'm planing to move from Germany to Edmonton in the next few months.
I was offered to work in Edmonton and now I fell insecure after reading your opinion.
Could someone please give me a hand if I can start a new live in Edmonton?
I'm single and a hard-working young man.
I love jogging and riding a bike......(like Kevin Spacy "I'm just an ordenary man with nothing to lose")
