Canadian Crime News, Atlantic: Sex Offences/Offenders

A 59-year-old woman accused of pimping in connection with a downtown Dartmouth brothel is appealing Nova Scotia Legal Aid's decision not to represent her.

Patricia Mary Dumaresq of Dundas Street in Dartmouth told a judge last week she has been denied legal aid.

She pleaded not guilty last week to keeping a common bawdy house at 69 Queen St., exercising control over the movements of a person to compel the person to engage in prostitution and procuring a person to become a prostitute.

Ms. Dumaresq was arrested Jan. 31, a day after officers obtained a search warrant and arrested four people at 69 Queen St.

Years ago when I was down on my luck I got a job working for Ms.Dumaresq,we were all like family.Ms.Dumaresq never forced any person to work for her the door was always open if you wanted to be there you were welcome and if you didn't want to be there you were welcome to leave. One thing I have to say if you ever wanted to come back she was always there for you .Ms.Dumaresq is not a "pimp' she has helped alot of us over the 18 years she's been around. I am one of thoes women that will stand by her now in her hour of need.So to any former women out there that Pat has helped over the years stand by her or reach out to her,I'm sure she'd love to hear from you.

Paladin, the nit wit that said anything to the officers did not even give real info.all of us that have worked there are laughing at her!Mike you are right Pat's was about being there for each other. She would close the place just to take us out for supper, ice cream or to the movie's,that's what she was about. So to all who think she was only in it for the money your dead wrong, she was and still is a great person. And shame on this newspaper for taking her money for thoes adds.

Maybe, you should really try to hear what is being said, not what is being reported(wrongly).Pat was not about the money, she would close to take us out for supper, ice cream or the movies.69 Queen was like a home for us.I don't expect men to understand that how could you.Although Mike I think you may have a better grasp than most.

Things are not always what they may seem,Ms.Dumaresq has always been there for the ladies that have worked for her.I find it wrong for anyone to judge her that does not know her.For her it has never been all about the money.

You know what...you should not print crap like this unless you know what you're talking about. Pat was well respected and a wonderful person. Pimp's don't pay thousands of dollars in taxes....the government had no problem taking her tax money...the thousands and thousands she paid. I know Pat personally, she is a friend of mine and calling her a pimp is just wrong to label a beautiful person like this. Her business never hurt anyone and I think it's wrong for you to print this cause it's false. Things you write in the newspaper follow people the rest of their lives so you should choose your words better.
