Catholic schools fail to support gay students with their new club policy.

There are 54 comments on the The Toronto Star story from Jan 31, 2012, titled Catholic schools fail to support gay students with their new club policy.. In it, The Toronto Star reports that:

Only a bunch of bishops more comfortable debating the finer points of church doctrine than the needs of teenagers would think that gay students will want to hang out in a "respecting differences club." It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

What do you expect from a bunch of hate filled Catholic bigots? Catholic schools will always treat LGBT kids/teenagers as second class citizens. I feel so sorry for them.

Well, it's a Catholic school. Private.

Run by Catholics.

They teach and promote Catholic stuff. They don't teach or promote stuff that counters Catholic teaching.

The author, of course, doesn't see that there's an attempt at outreach or instruction on respecting differences. The author takes occasion to fault the way they (have to) do it.

I'm sure the author would have written a similar hatchet piece lambasting them had they not had such a group at all.

Cheap article.

Besides sending a child of any orientation to a catholic school should be considered as child abuse

You ran that line out earlier today and it still isn't funny.

Don't you have a revolution to plot out or something?

They speak nicely of you.

Had you attended their schools, you might have not spelled it "abussing".

I don't see why you are bashing all of us Catholics, I am bi-curious and a Catholic, only a few of my friends know though. Guess what Lilith, I've also got some Catholic friends that are extremely accepting. Don't put us all on the same boat. You aren't after all of us. You only want the ones that you believe do wrong things. Bashing other peoples beliefs is unacceptable. You say how bad Catholicism is and yet you go around saying us Catholics are all bad people. As far as I can see, you are acting no better than the people that you as a person despise.

Not quite, the article seems to imply that it's a publicly funded catholic school, and also that the "trying" is a half hearted attempt and one that's being done only because they have to. I sincerely doubt a catholic institution is going to be accepting and concerned about gay kids in the manner in which they should be concerned.
Good article.

I could have missed that, Pat.

Maybe they fund them a bit up there in Canada.

The rest of my post still applies.

Why would you believe that they wouldn't be "concerned" about any gay kids that may be attending?
