Sen. McGovern: You are one sorry SOB!! You talk about the hero's welcome you received upon returning home from WWII. Yet after I flew 205 combat missions in Vietnam and returned home,I was spat upon while walking to my duty station in the Pentagon upon my return home. A great deal of that treatment to all verterans was due to sorry bastarts like you and your lack of support for our military! You have no creditability whatsovevr to speak for any American other than yourself and it is a tragedy for the United States that you were ever elected by the good people of South Dakota as a Sentator!! Now you are giving comfort to the cowardly bastards who fled to Canada during the Vietnam confilict! Thank God that we who did serve in Vietnam give inept people like yourself and the people you now sympathize with, the freedom to express your idiotic ideology. You have that freedom only because of better people than yourself!!!
You enjoy the same status among Military veterans as the Traitor Jane Fonda!!! You are a shameful person and a disgrace to this great nation.

So tell me Bob, what exactly did the US accomplish in Vietnam? What did the blood of 200,000+ dead and wounded US soldiers purchase for Vietnam?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking what you and your comrades in arms did. I feel the treatment you and other servicemen recieved on returning from 'Nam had a lot to do with the war being the first one to appear nightly on American TV. Think of it from this perspective, WW2 was considerdd a right and just war. But if TV had been as ubiquitous then as it was during the Vietnam era, I don't doubt that many citizens would have been revolted by the carnage and senseless destruction. Probably moreso from the ETO than the Pacific theatre though.
But with Vietnam, a primarily agrarian society, most people didn't have a clue where it was and were wondering why the hell you were over there killing people that did nothing to the US.

Personally, I'd rather have Vietnam draft dodgers up here than the current crop of American AWOLS that beat it up here during the Iraq war. THOSE dirtbags thought they could join the military and get something out of it without having to give anything back.

If anything though, Vietnam taught at least one lesson. If yer gonna go to war, go big or stay home. Half-assing it just gets a bunch of people killed for nothing.

Canada became the largest per-capita producer of war materiels during the Vietnam War. We made a "killing", without any sacrifice, and all while feigning an air of moral superiority. It was great! Let's do it again!
