Andrew,

This statement from the other forum sums it all up.

"It baffles me that this thread is still here. Bottom line people, WFG is terrible. Notice how the people who defend it have only been working for them for a year. It usually takes them a few to figure out how bad it really is.

I have been in the insurance business a long time. I am independent, I own my company, I work with good CANADIAN insurance companies and I give my clients service. I would never recommend someone remortgage to invest. This company gives good advisors a bad name. Just stay far away. The reason there's so many bad reviews on the internet about WFG is that it's no good. Stop arguing about it, realize it's crap, Transamerica is getting sued, Aegon is going downhill and the industry is tightening regulations and compliance to protect the public from these unethical companies.

FIND A GOOD INDEPENDENT ADVISOR, preferably someone with a CFP or some other credible financial designation. Insurance is a good thing, if used properly by people who know what they are doing. "

WFG is not a "company". It's a boot camp for criminals. I was recruited a year ago by an ex-schoolmate. I was told rosy stories about getting rich while helping people. I paid $100 for security check and was given lots of "trainings". They taught me how to trick someone to meet them, how to lie to everyone I know, how to persuade people to buy their useless and expensive life insurance policy but tell people it's an "investment". Oh boy, was I shocked by the fact that the government even turns a blind eye on it. Well, since casino is fine, this isn't much worse. As long as they both can generate tax revenue, who cares? They want every contact info in my cell phone so they can trick them, too. These people put fake smiles all the time to earn your trust. They also "teach" you some financial knowledge to disarm you. They even throw parties at members to further attract you. At the end of the day, all they are after is your money, your loved ones' money, and your friends' money. I quit out of disgust.

Your story is not uncommon. Many people are disgusted with greed driven WFG, and companies like them, including those who have lost significant amounts of money, and realtionships with family and friends as a result of WFG. Thanks for sharing your story.

Badu Kane was the schmuck that brought me into the company. He and his staff lied to me all the way.The interview was for a company that he had no intention of hiring me for. The $100 security check is bogus, the $100 is to join WFG nothing else. They told me i would be paid while i train which i was not. I was told the 2 meetings per month were mandatory they were not.But for gas and their B.S training I am out about $1500 not to mention the harassment they gave my friends with endless phone calls even after they were told no.When Badu Kane came to my house and tried to sell my wife insurance he was so pushy and ignorant he put my wife in tears. I had told the upper people in wfg all that happened and they couldnt care less. I tried getting a lawyer but I could not find a lawyer that would go after wfg unless I could get atleast 20 people to make it a class action because of the WFG backing and lawyers make them near impossibe to touch.

That is unfortunate, but not uncommon. WFG tends to create many of these complaints and situations. I would look for others who have gone through the same situation if you want to launch a class action law suit, there are others who feel the same as you.

There have been several class action law suits against WFG in the states. Look at those cases to see if you have similar grounds for a lawsuit.

However, you can submit a complaint to the BBB, or your local security authority.

And tell others about your experience with WFG. The more people know, the less harm will be done. Good luck.

Research Aegon World Financial Group. It's not bogus, just tidious and alot of marketing hype. You will have to commit all your extra time you didn't know you had. You'll fall into the MLM success ratio of 3% or so.

I personally went to couple of meetings and an upstart class for 6 hrs. i can really say their very good at taking away your free time thats if you have any and if u don't oh they will do it for you. not to consider how many times they came over to my house. All of this happened within a week and a half. oh and forgot to mention that it wasn't just me that went through this bs my wife was part of the ride.
reasons:
all they talked at the meetings was the word RECRUIT and how you can live your dream life.
at the 6 hr. upstart school for two hrs. was how this one guy reached his dreams and his one week vacation and the stuff he did there because of WFG.
and the rest of the time speakers talking about the next convention. And that we must be there and not only that we must again RECRUIT people to go as well and get ripped of and waste a good three days of their short precious life and worst of all be brainwashed .

Wfg is a scam.... all they do is take ur money nd teach you how to be liers. They cover their faces with ours or other new recruits. Those 100 dollars are just so they can start gettin more recruits from you. I was in it for 7 months nd went no were, no money came in never.. you go trough the 10 filters so u can get dropped nd they made money out of you. They even say they will pay for refferences but I don't know of anyone that ever got paid. We got recruited from school 15 kids nd not even the over achivers from our school won anythin, only cheap gifts.

FUCK WFG!!! WE SHOULD MAKE A LAWSUIT. I KNOW THERE'S OVER 20 PPL WITH THE SAME STORY...

oh, it's been 2 and a half years since I've been to a meeting. I had been going for five years. All together I spent over 5,000 dollars going to conventions, watching bogus Xuan Nuggeten talking about magic number '3', or it's a new era or they broke the code for xuccess. Well, now I am making serious money by not being part of the WFG circus and actually getting in business for myself with a team... Guys, jump off the boat, these guys from WFG are predators, they lie so much that they don't even know that they are lying to themselves. Stay away fom the "Phams" or the "Luus" or the "Trahns" or the other vultures. They talk about carcass as if they were gold. They will be preying on people tomorrow and everyday 'till the government cracks them down.

I have been approached by WFG and attended a meeting today. I like to do my due diligence so I googled and found this site. One thing that I have noticed is that the majority of people who are saying this is a "scam" are located in the States... not just in this short thread, but this on, with over 1200 pages: http://www.topix.com/forum/ca/calgary-ab/T4TT...

The Canadians seem more happy with WFG. I think this has to do with the extremely different government regulations in Canada and the US. Case in point, Canada's banking regulations are more strict than the US, which is why we fared better in this past recession and were out of the recession much quicker. Not to mention, the US has more MLM "bad faith" issues than Canada. And the financial and insurance industries in the two countries are not a straight apples to apples comparison.

Having lived in both countries, I'd say Canadians tend to also have a higher standard of ethics, no offense intended to those south of the border.

With all that said, the company is MLM in its practices, and bottom tier have a low percentage of success. They do have some good products, I have not seen everything, but from this and the other website, I can see that they also have some bad products (UL). And of course, as the saying goes, "a few bad apples can ruin the bunch." So if you have some unethical reps in Canada and the U.S., that is the problem, as is the company's MLM focus. It also doesn't mean that every aspect of WFG is a scam or that everyone who works there is an evil scammer.

WPG is also not the only insurance company that offers UL, so I think that what makes WPG particularly bad is the tactics used by its reps to sell products to people when those people are ill-suited for a particular product. Its no different that going to Best Buy and (assuming they made commission, which they don't) the Best Buy rep selling you a laptop with all the bells and whistles, when you just want it for word processing. They guy could have sold you the $499 computer on sale, instead he sells you a high end Mac for $3,000. This is what SOME WFG reps are doing, and it seems to be where the bad reputation stems from, and more of this goes on in the States than in Canada, though Canada has the bad rep, it is to a lesser degree.

I'm glad for internet forums like this, I have learned quite a bit. I will not waste my time or money with this company if after I read their contracts (I'm a lawyer) I notice that the contracts are misleading the consumers. That to me would be a reflection on WFG directly and not on its independent contractors, and of course, would make WFG a scam. But the fact that it is an MLM framework does NOT make it a scam. And rougue, unethical frontline employees/independent contractors also do not make the company a scam.

I am curious to find out how it works, and once I do so, hopefully with minimal time invested, and certainly with no money out of my wallet, I suppose I'll learn which side of these forums is correct. I am starting to think both sides are correct... thanks to all who posted before me.

I pity your passionate life you have towards WFG.

I am posting this from Waterloo, Ontario and this has negatively impacted my friends AND my parents. As others already posted, they constantly come to your friends and family to sign up for some stupid insurance products that they do not need.

My story: I just lost all their trust after I heard this. My dad runs a business at a mall. When the "marketing director" visited my parents for a "chat", he began to ask questions about the business that my dad is running (you name it, he asked everything from money to how much inventory he's got). He promised that all the information my dad has given, are safe.
The next day, I heard from my dad, with outrageous voice, saying that that bastard who came to our house, spilled all the information to his workmates, and one of them (stupid enough to come to the store) and flabbermouthed about the business, added judgmental comments and acted rude.

From this, I am truly truly in deep regrets and thoughts about how stupid I was, and should have listened to my parents when they told me that the company seems very sketchy. If you think WFG is making people's lives easier? Look at my story along with other victims, you are so oblivious. I would want to add more stories (lying about reimbursing my fees and such), I should stop here. My point is made.

I find all these negitive post so funny. A bunch of nobodies saying bad things. I thought I might try to find out what the industy is saying about this company.
WFG was named Canada's best MGA and top firm overall in 2006 and 2007 with an IE rating of 9.3, surveys conducted by Investment Executive, a newspaper for Canadian financial advisors

World Financial Group Inc. scored top spot again in 2008 for Canada's best MGA, alongside Mississauga-based IDC Financial Inc.

I guess what I'm say is I'm not stupid enought to listen to a bunch of retartds with and axe to grind.

Hi,

I was with WFG for 18 months, In those 18 months I found that, the company concept is multi-level marketing for financial product. They told you that you own the business for QMD level, but technically you don't because you can only sell your business within WFG probebly your upline. Once you visit their office and talk about internet BAD stuff about WFG, they will told you that talk with different companies who are working with them. In Canada only two Life companies working with them TransAmerica and Equitable Life and couple of other investment companies.
Once you enroll with WFG they will ask you about top 25 or top 100 list. they will told you that it is your business, but while you understand your up line will consume your list, so at last once you have a license you do not have anything to work on it and at last once you quit all your family and friend stay with them, or in-case you take license and work with them still you start very low level and your work taken by your up line.
They are very cheap once you get a license you have to pay E&O Insurance+Office fee+Email fee+and other usages fee, even they charge you on the direct deposit commission you get pay, approximately upto $2.

So before visiting or working or taking any plan form them talk with any independent adviser about what they suggest you.

I am giving you couple of example.
They suggest you remortage your home (Home Line)
They suggest you big insurance amount with permanent insurance (usually insurance amount is more costly then other companies)
They offer you TFSA for emergency funds ect

Rest of if you have any question they leave a message under unknow, I will try my best to give you answer.
