4 This person should be shipped off to America! The whole "conform" to mainstream culture. Canada is a beautiful country, often refered to as a Mosaic! A mosaic is a beauitful piece of art that is created by many individual peices, unique from all other peices. You call yourself Canadian, yet you preach American values. "Get back where you came from?" I'm sorry, but you youself are from India. No matter what you say or think, that will always be a fact. If today, the Canadian government was to decide to ship out all Indians, you would be on that boat! So don't think that you are superior, because whether it be at 2 or 50, you came from India. You say that the indians come to canada and take tax payers money, but so do many other minorities, and caucasians. Indians do also open businesses, hire people, the give back to all communities. Sikh people are the most giving people I have ever met. Where other communities cannot come up with money, Sikh people work hard, and give back, for example, the millions they raised for the Brampton Hospital. They may stick to what they are familiar with (as any normal person does), but when needed, they are always there to help the community. I have seen old indian men and women coming out of factories, walking home, just making the most of being able to live in this beautiful country. And please, tell me where i can get a brochure that speaks of the "Canadian way of life" that you THINK you know about, because being a TRUE canadian (not one that came here at a young age, and now acts like they have no connection to their roots) I have learned that these Indians are living that life. They are hard working, active members of their community. No one is telling you to live in Brampton. Its a choice you make. If you have a problem with it...leave! |

2 The natives of this land would have felt the same way when French and British took over their land, white folks brought their culture here, so dont stop others from doing it, show some respect. |

3 You are so quick to make judgement..I am NOT Indian. I am actually what you are trying so hard to be! Lol. "the facts are the facts" - you choose to ignore the positive facts and focus on only the negative. I think Negativity is so ugly. Try being positive and see what Immigrants do for this counrty. 15 people in one home? I have many indian friends and I have yet to see that. And even if they do have that many people living in their home, why does it bother you? They aren't asking you to have their family live with you, or asking you to pay their bills! I know MANY caucasians who because of religion do not use birth control. Some of these families have up to 8 kids in their home! Their grand parents live in their home to help, and include the parents. Thats 12 people. No one says anything to them? Why the double standard? I know indian people who let relatives live with them to help them get on their feet so that they can buy a house/car and slowly get settled and be an upstanding member of the canadian community. There is nothing wrong with that. Its better than having them come here, and living on the streets, not being able to educate their kids. And who cares about how people celebrate their holidays? I have heard fireworks on Valentines day, even this past thanksgiving weekend! Whats the big deal? Everyone does it! Not just the indians. Divali may not be a national holiday, but does that mean they shouldn't celebrate it? If you want to talk like that, why should christmas be celebrated? If thats the case, no one should have holidays/vacations. You shouldn't celebrate your birthday because its not a national holiday either! You are being ridiculous! You are nit picking trying to make a valid point, but all you have is fireworks and multi family homes? You are grasping, my friend. I see indian people in huge houses. I see indian people opening businesses. They must be paying tax on those. Tax money that is being used for your kids education, the streets you walk on, and the medical system you use. I see indian people having like 4 cars in their drive ways. They must be paying some tax on that. Look at the economy right now. Its crap! If immigration was cut, the house industry and the auto industry would be in more turmoil than it is right now. And there is no arguing that. Immigration is essential for the success of this counrty - if it wasn't essential, the government would have shut the gates to canada a long time ago. That is why you and your family were allowed to enter this beautiful Country as an Immigrant. And remember, you are what is called a "Naturalized Citizen". You were not born in this country. You yourself are an Immigrant (Not that i think there is anything wrong with that - but you seem to think that immigrants (indians in particular) are less than you are). No matter how much you say "I AM CANADIAN" (is this a beer commercial?) there is no changing what you really are. You are a person who was born in India, who immigrated to canada, and became a Naturalized citizen. I don't have a problem with it. You are in denial! I don't know if you are a dave chappelle fan. When reading your posts, you remind me of the following clip: http://cliptank.com/funny-clips/dave-chappell... |

1 but there is no need to discrimate against them. Just because they celebrate their culture and bulid temples , why is that so wrong. Is it wrong to practice your culture or worship your gods because i don't think it is. They also celebrate canadian traditions as well as theres, i've seen many indians celebrate canada day. And REMEBER that in Canada you are your culture first and then Canadian |

1 On the other hand, there are some immigrants who make no effort to even adjust to any Canadian customs or learn the language. In particular, some Sikh groups don't even speak to each other based on their caste/class. These kinds of particular traditions need to be left back in India. However, there is absolutely NOTHING WRONG with being proud of your heritage or where you come from. If people want to celebrate Diwali, it is their RIGHT. Being Canadian is about diversity, understanding and mutual respect. If we don't have this, we would be just like the Americans. I am glad to live in a county where I can learn and enjoy what other cultures have to offer. Finally, I pity people like " I love my dog". You, my friend, need a reality check. It's pathetic to see someone so desperately trying to assert a Canadian identity by intently contradicting everything that means to be a Canadian. |

1 - Urinating on my neighbors homes, in broad daylight, and blowing snot onto the ground on the street. These are things I dont want to see when I'm sitting on my front porch trying to enjoy the view of my yard. Is this acceptable/common behavior in South Asia? - Changing the Landscape, I understand the need to build temples and how expensive they are. But neighborhoods look terrible when you have a temple being build brick by brick over a period of 2-5 years and in the mean time you have these makeshift structures made of bits of plywood or whatever else material that can be found. That causes houses to depreciate, who wants to move into a neighborhood looking like that? Maybe only South Asians. - I've noticed many business simply move or go out of business because they dont have the support. More and more stores are opening up that cater to South Asians. I expand to more stuff.. but thats enough for now. |

1 Your observations are rather site specific and don't seem to really have a point. For one thing, I've seen people urinating in places they shouldn't be doing it in. And they weren't really South Asian. But I have more common sense than to make a question of whether this kind of practice is acceptable in South Asia. For all you know, I could just as well make comments about Greektown in Toronto, which has its own site specific problems. But I for one will not generalize on all Greeks based on those problems. In terms of your temple comment, I'd have to agree to an extent. I for one have seen Sikh temples just about everywhere. They are often unfinished and do depreciate the values of nearby communities. However, this kind of issue is prevalent in most areas. For example, when I lived in woodbridge, churches were popping up everywhere and had the same type of problem. So would this be ok? Finally, your comment about business is legitimate. But you have to understand that if a store doesn't serve the purpose to the surrounding community, it'll eventually go out of business. If an indian restaurant were to be built in lets say Woodbridge, and all the Italians weren't really fond of this cuisine it'll obviously go out of business. Simple as that |
