Greece was against to the use of the Macedonia name by the new state, as well as to the use of the sun of sixteen rays......(emblem of the real house of Macedonia in the days of Great Alexander)in the flag of the new country, and imposed a blockade economic, which seriously affected the economy of Skopie, closing its access to the sea through Tesalónica. The blockade finally was lifted in 1995 following an agreement between Greece and Macedonia. The new situation implied that the new name of the country is Ex- Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia, by its abbreviations in English)

Somebody should stop this stupid discussion. Macedonia is already independent country, so what is the point? Entities and who are against this reality should be punished because of violating of the law. Czech Republic is and will always be supporting the independent Macedonia. Your place is in the EU and NATO together with us. If some poor and retrograde country is complicating your life, you can count upon our support. They have not a decisive word and the right of veto will be abolished soon. Greetings from Prague.

There is no discussion. There are some people that want to be called macedonians, but they are slavic. They claim that they are descendans of the ancient Hellenic tribe and also have territorial claims on Greece. There isn`t any independent country with the name Macedonia. Macedonia is a greek region. If you mean the former yougoslavia republic you should call it f.y.r.o.m.

I suggest you read up on some more facts before you go posting a one-sided opinion. The issue here is that Fyrom lay claim that they are descendants of the ancient Macedonians of Greece.
They are Slavo-Macedonians and are not connected to the Macedonians of Greece.
