Dec 7, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: The State

Canada approved China's biggest overseas energy acquisition, a $15.1 billion takeover by state-owned CNOOC of Canadian oil and gas producer Nexen, but vowed Friday to reject any future foreign takeovers in the oil sands sector by state owned companies.

Foreign investments have been happening in Canada for decades upon decades. If foreign investments are wrong for this country than ALL THE PREVIOUS GOVERNMENTS are guilty. Canadians are the guilty ones we will not invest in companies in this country,or those who are willing to invest we all complain they are getting to rich. Wake up folks and start investing than, instead of whinning! You can't have it both ways

Yeah, because there's no difference between "foreign investment" and approving a takeover, in a strategically significant sector, by a "state-owned enterprise" that is basically controlled by the communist Chinese government. You moron.

Wow, you just don't run out of retarded things to say, do you? FYI "McCarthyism" is accusing a non-communist of being a communist. Now tell me how that applies to the People's Republic of China, moron?

Why don't you read Harper's own words before you blather about "black helicopters":

'"When we say Canada is open for business, we do not mean that Canada is for sale to foreign governments," Harper said.

"To be blunt, Canadians have not spent years reducing the ownership of sectors of the economy by our own governments, only to see them bought and controlled by foreign governments instead."'

Apparently they have, given that Ching Chong Harper's actions could not more glaringly contradict his words.

Moron.

On the other hand anyone who comes up with such a brilliant name like Ching Chong Harper,LOL sorry I am trying to keep a straight face with this, tell me truthfully DIPSTICK did you come up with that name on your own or did you have help. I think it's about time you quit the Senator McCarthy fan club. SSSH black helicopters above...LOL. Good luck on that home grown ownership thing.

Uh, what? Pathetic dodge. How does labelling the People's Republic of China "communist" make "paranoids" like myself guilty of McCarthyism? Moron.

Ted, there's a difference between foreign investment and a foreign national taking over a Canadian corporation.
For example, many of Canada's cement plants, including Canada's two largest cement companies, are owned by German companies.
The difference is, the German companies aren't state owned, they are private enterprises. CNOOC is about as far from a private enterprise as you can get.
I mean hell, if we're gonna let state owned corporations operate in our oil fields, then we might as well fire PetroCan back up again.

Petro-Canada was founded as a Crown Corporation in 1975 by an act of Parliament. It started its operations on 1 January 1976. The company was given C$1.5 billion in start-up money and easy access to new sources of capital. It was set up in Calgary, despite the hostility of existing oil firms.[citation needed] Its first president was Maurice Strong. The Progressive Conservatives (PCs), then led by Albertan Joe Clark, were opponents of the company, and advocated breaking it up and selling it. However, they were unable to proceed with these plans during their brief time in power.
Petro-Canada Fuel Pump

With the establishment of Petro-Canada, the federal government transferred its 45% stake in Panarctic Oils Ltd. and its 12% stake in Syncrude to the newly established company. In 1976, Petro-Canada purchased Atlantic Richfield Canada, in 1978 Pacific Petroleums, and in 1981 Petrofina. Most of the original Petro-Canada refineries and service stations were acquired from BP Canada in 1983.

The company became popular outside of Alberta as a symbol of Canadian nationalism.. It quickly grew to become one of the largest players in the traditional oil fields of the west as well as in the oil sands and the East coast offshore oil fields.

When the Liberals returned to power in 1980, energy policy was an important focus, and the sweeping National Energy Program was created. This expanded Petro-Canada, but it was detrimental to Alberta's economy. The PC government of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney (19841993) stopped using Petro-Canada as a policy tool, and it began to compete fully and successfully with the private sector companies.

In 1990, the government announced its intention to privatize Petro-Canada, and the first shares were sold on the open market in July 1991 at $13 each

What's your point dumbass? Are you seriously comparing a Crown corporation operating IN CANADA to a foreign national buying out a private Canadian corporation?
Are you really that stupid?
Oh and uh FYI fucktard, I'm a centrist, not a conservative. Of course anything remotely right of your commie POV would be considered conservative I guess.

Awwwwww how cute, attempting to build a strawman. I got news for ya shithead, you'll need to steal more straw from your mother's kennel.

Case in point, having to debate some uneducated lackwit who doesn't know the difference a Crown corporation operating on its native soil and eventually becoming privatized and a foreign national buying out a domestic corporation.

So much for that vaunted Chinese intelligence of yours LOL.
