that was tried once before with the railroads and it failed. as over half of the workers are/were in the military all they will do is booby trap their vehicles. |

COME ON TRUCKERS LETS SHUT THEMS DOWN
|

Let's face it partners, the cost of the "regretable" fuel we all need is not going to come down on price!
The priority we need to work on is getting the cost of frieght up to a level where we can all make money to survive, but to help maintain our trucks and equipment, and yet put more money back into the bank! It allways looks like the so-called surcharge has more fingers in our raisen pies than we think, we all need help in getting those little fingers out of our surchsrge, and letting the brokers know thats bullsh*t, and give the trucking people back what is actually theirs to begin with! The cost of transporting the cargo has to increase, or we WILL NOT MAKE IT! Truck on my Brothers and Sisters!!! |
|
You are right. I think we will need a political solution. The exact same problems were happening in 1930's leading to REGULATION of RATES. Regulation was far from perfect, but we were a lot better off then we are now. It has been done before, and it worked! |

1 OK, let’s assume Bush does sign such an executive order. How long do you think it would take the refiners to simply shut down? They could only operate at a loss for so long. The two largest problems which contribute to higher gasoline/diesel costs are increased demand for oil by other nations. Specifically China and India. The major problem is the devaluation of the US dollar. Our increased trade deficit continues to devalue our dollar. All those inexpensive Chinese goods are substantially responsible for that. The freeze you suggest would do little more than further damage our already fragile economy. |

Read further, the premise of loss was based on a price freeze. |

The only way the oil companies will lose on a price freeze is if oil prices drop massively, even if oil were to drop to $80.00 per barrel, they would still be making money. after all they were still making a truckload of money when oil was at $70.00 per barrel. so please explain how there would be a loss to the oil industry?

1 Easy enough. If there were to be a price freeze on gasoline and diesel (read the original suggestion by roofgoof) and oil were to go up in price the refineries couldn’t raise fuel prices. Oil will continue increasing in price, particularly foreign oil which we depend so heavily on. We can not place a price freeze on imported oil. The oil producers of the world would simply sell more to China and other countries. Let’s make this more simple. You have a lemonade stand. The government mandates you must freeze the price of your lemonade to one dollar per glass. Your current cost to produce lemonade is 80 cents. You’re still content and sell your lemonade. Over time your cost for lemons increases and it now costs you $1.05 per glass to produce one glass. You’re now losing money, you can still only sell it for $1. The government has mandated you can not increase your price and there’s nothing you can do about the price of lemons. Sure, we have domestic oil sources and I’m sure the government could slap a price freeze on them as well. That doesn’t work with foreign producers. So bottom line if our government were to freeze fuel prices and the cost of foreign oil were to rise the refiners could begin to lose money. I didn’t suggest the refiners are losing money now. But, they could under a price freeze. Most likely they would simply shut down rather than lose money. A price freeze isn’t the answer. |
