they should have given their workers some warning, that's a terrible way to do business. it's no wonder they went out of business.

<quoted text> Oh, yes. President Obama runs every single business in the country, and of course, it's the President's fault that this company shut down with no warning at all. And I'm sure that Strickland, Coleman, and Bush all were there too! Good grief! Get off your stupid political soapbox. But thanks so much for providing EVERY SINGLE STORY'S (no matter what the story is about)required spew that Obama, Strickland, Coleman, Bush, etc. and so on is responsible for it. These men must be awfully tired being able to oversee and conspire constantly on every single thing in the entire country all at the same time!
Lets see...Obama runs GM. Had the old CEO fired, Runs most of the nations banks, Runs Chrysler, Getting ready to run health care etc. I bet your one of those that sits on your fat ass in your easy chair waiting for your monthly government handout!!!

I'm in the trucking industry and this is cold, 2 days before xmas the drivers have to park the trucks and find there own way home, I think if it was me I would have found the nearest boat ramp and let the rig roll into the water.

The trucking company should be made to sell all assets and split the monies evenly among all the employees based upon years employed. Plus, the company's executives should be personally fined for doing this to their employees.
The unions strap companies down to the point they can nolonger survive and then all the high priced workers complain when they lose jobs!

No, offense, I'm really sorry for all the people that are stranded and out of money far from home, but as a group, you truckers are some of the most ignorant people on the planet. You work slave hours for slave wages and brag about how it makes you a great American. If ever a group of people didn't know what side their bread was buttered on it is YOU. I pity you for what is going to happen to you over the next few years. It's sad, you could bring this country to a standstill if you had the brains and balls to work together, but you just don't get it. My condolences for the end of your industry as you know it.
Yes truckers work some odd hr's but to call us slaves is not right. What do you think truckes make a year? I wish everyone on hear would try to help out one of the drivers trying to get home. Its been so good the hear how meany of the truckers helping out each other in this time of need. This is why i am so glad to be in the trucking world. You have a point Brian, but the top management of this company knew they were going to shut down. I'll just betcha that they got their final paycheck. They screwed their drivers and most likely all of their suppliers. They should be locked up.

Money is a strange thing because if anyone is going broke they look out for themselves first! No matter what happens that is what we do but it hurts more when we are on the tales side of the coin.

<quoted text> Because they cannot possibly be held responsible for the failure or every single business and the shabby treatment that the OWNERS of those businesses give to their employees. Certainly government programs have some bearing on a lot of businesses, but they are not responsible for every single case of a business going belly up. Irresponsibility on the part of the business owners is more often the cause than some politician's doings.
I am a business owner and the last thing I want is to shut down. No employee is going to give all the money they have to the company they work for just because they need it. So why would anyone think the unwritten law of the land called for yourself should change for them? You would do the same thing like anyone would...look out for your family. If you started a company worked hard and provided a great job for people and the business died, taxes were hard to pay what makes you think You would owe more to your employees than you would have leftover for your family? You took the risk of starting the business, you payed half of the ss tax and gave them work as long as you could and then someone thinks you owe them more...Bull crap. Being hired is a honor not a obligation of the company! This crappy attitude is what led big companys to leave this nation and hire those who really value employment.

I do want to say I do not agree with sticking people on the money they are owed I do feel the company should have to pay that much. But anymore than that no!

Steve, I have had six different companies fold while I worked for them, and I was pretty darn upset with the people that ran them into the ground. However I was very lucky that is every case I was paid in full for the hours that I had worked. I lost my vacation time and stuff like that but I at least got paid.

I also was lucky that I didn't work for someone like you that thinks it is an honor to work for a company. Steve, both the company and the employee benefit from the reationship, but you for some reason think different. Anyone who takes advantage of an employee by not paying them is nothing more than a thief, and should be treated like one.

More of the hope and change obama promised! If anyone thinks obama is even just little bit of a good president they have a screw loose. No one has a job and this guy has been busy passing trash to pay off his union friends and in case you did not notice this would not be the workers.
i got news for you lisa, president obama did not have a dogone thing to do with this you need to think how long this was in the beginning before mr abama took office (bush )maybe! but it was doomed to happen look of all the changes that has been made in the trucking business in the last few years,so you thanks your last president.

Whether it's fact or fiction, people have the perception that Unions destroy the profitability of companies and force them out of business. Everyone thinks that about GM, but it's not politically correct to mention it.

Sometimes it's just the perception that can harm the image and not necessarily the reality.

I never said bush was my president I just said you dems blamed him for everthing and you feel blaming obama is wrong. The facts are try researching this to confirm that Clinton with a republican controlled goverment yanked all the factory jobs from this country by passing the nafta agreement! If you do not know this I would believe you know little about economics! AND BY THE WAY OBAMA SHOULD BE SEEN AS PART OF THIS CONSIDERING HE PUSHED A TRILLION DOLLAR STIMULAS TO AVOID THIS KIND OF JOB LOSS AND IT HAS FAILED WITH NO,NO,NO PROGRESS! WHEN BUSH TOOK OFFICE GAS WAS A 1.46 AND WAS BLAMED FROM THE SECOND HE TOOK OFFICE REGARDLESS OF WHAT WHAT WAS GIVEN TO HIM LIKE A OVER CORRECTED ECONMOMY{GREENSPANS OWN WORDS} WHEN OBAMA TOOK OFFICE UNEMPLOYMENT WAS AROUND 7.5% AND THEN SPENT 2009 PAYING OFF UNION LEADERS AND SHOVING A HORRIBLE HEALTH CARE PLAN DOWN OUR THROATS. YES HE CAN BE BLAMED AND MOST LIKELY WILL BE IN 3 YEARS!

This is an all-too-familiar situation with trucking company management for decades across the country. Since the so-called "deregulation" of the industry in 1980, hundreds of thousands of drivers and dock-workers, and their families, have been devastated by unscrupulous, cold-hearted corporate executives who only care about (what they think is) their money.
They don't care about the federal WARN ACT, nor do they concern themselves with service to shipping customers.
Unfortunately, laws favor companies who do this, and need to be changed, to reflect the lawful rights of workers on an even level with vendors and creditors.

Should have left the trucks where ever they were when they were informed. Bounce a paycheck like that, and I would have used it to get home and left it at the nearest truckstop. Let the company come get it and explain to the customer.
