I had the rubber hose on the pipe going from my turbo to my charge air cooler break at about 3,000 miles. they said that it must have gotten doubled up when they pressed the metal band on that they use to hold it together. otherwise no other problem. i now have about 14,000 miles.

I had a 2008 Volvo D16 with a Coolant system light that just wont go off. It's been back to the dealer 5 times.

I've even heard that a lot of the new trucks with the D16 wouldn't even make it off the lot because the injector hold downs were not even tight so it would blow the seals out and blow the injector right out of the bore.

I have never heard that...if that was the case it would never get out of the factory lot because it would blow let along make it to the dealerships.

The D 16 engines are nothing but issues. Ever since Volvo bought mack. Volvo has lowered there standers. They ride nice if you have them out of the shop and it seems to never end with the issues either

Think about how many Volvos are on the road.Think about the complexity of todays trucks. All of them, every brand has it's issues. "This ain't your daddy's Peterbilt."In order to stay at the top of the pack, you have to be a pioneer.Which means cutting edge technology.Go buy an I-phone, see what you get!If you can't deal with a few bugs, don't go buy the best and newest.Go buy old reliable and get left behind on a long steep grade.

Halfdollar, it's not the D16 thats the problem. It's the air bag.but you'll be fine.yYou most likely won't have any problems. If you do,it should be covered by warranty. The new airbags are better.Don't buy into the hype!

i bought a vn with a d16(535).i knew it had problems when i bought it.i a lack of power and fuel mileage issues.volvo put new injectors in and replaced the turbo at 68000km.it felt like a different truck.my mileage increased 4.1 to 6.3 mpg(cn) at 65-68mph.if your fuel milage is less than 6.5mpg on a reefer then you do have a problem with your motor.i haul cattle to 100000lbs gross so(legacy)you should be doing better than me.my truck is at 218000km now.my mileage is good and i haven`t had any major problems since the injectors/turbo was done.
