If there has been more problems with the volvo D16 please send your issues with it. We are now on the 8th turbo, thank goodness we purchased the extended warranty. This is just one of many problems we keep having. Email to [email protected] Thank you

Bill, you may want to rethink your choice, in a heavy haul application, the D13 will work extremely harder than the D16., also, most of the problems on the D16 were from early production engines. Volvo has addressed the issues at the assembly line. I would wait though for Jan. before buying a Volvo engine. The SCR emmission system sounds like the best alternative to massive EGR, which is what all engines have now. You won't have the higher cyclinder temps that the present engines have, and the engine won't be detuned to compensate for it.

Bill, the only thing I know of right now is, if you buy a D16, make sure it is in a VT880, don't get it in the VNL780...to run the overhead on the engine, which is required every 125K miles, they have to remove part of the dash and raise the left side of the cab just to get the valve cover off. I am just learning about all the little goodies that Volvo has in store. Also make sure the coolant level sensor can be purchased by itself. Just got done spending $1000.00 US on a coolant tank and sensor. Cannot purchase seperatley for my year truck. Sensor lasted 309K miles, it works off of resistance, so you cannot bypass it when it fails..in other words it shuts you down.

MOST OF THE PROBLEMS IN FUEL ECONOMY ARE FROM FAILURES RELATED TO FUEL PROBLEMS, AIR IN THE FUEL. THE SUPER HIGH INJECTION PRESSURES (FOR FUEL ECONOMY) CAUSE PROBLEMS IN THE INJECTOR COPPERS, WHICH LEAD TO POOR FUEL ECONOMY AND PREMATURE INJECTOR FAILURE. THEY HAVE LOWERED THE INJECTION PRESSURES AND REDESIGNED THE INJECTOR HOLD DOWN DESIGN TO FIX THIS. IF YOUR ENGINE HAS NOT HAD THESE UPDATES MAKE SURE YOUR GETTING THE LATEST GREATEST PARTS AND PROGRAMMING (BEST TO GET THIS IN WRITING) ITS NOT RUNNING TO ITS POTENTIAL. THIS ENGINE WHEN RUNNING RIGHT HAS GREAT FUEL ECONOMY AND POWER, AND VERY RELIABLE.......... WHEN ITS RIGHT!

You can go that route, just be prepared for the higher cost involved with the D-16 in the VN models. You could go with the VT830...same truck as the VNL730, different hood and set forward front axle. I have talked to a lot of drivers who have the I shift, it is a great trans as long as there are no air leaks. Sometimes you just have to roll the dice and see what you come up with. As long as you watch your money and are willing to "operate to own" you will do just fine.

I have an 07 630 volvo. just turned 250,000 miles. After I get 8-9 thousand miles on an oil change it uses 1 gallon of oil to a thousand miles. I cAN NOT KEEP ANTI FREEZE IN IT. I just had an oil analysis run and my oil is high in sodium showing probably that the long life anti freeze is evaporating and the residue powder is winding up in my oil. My fuel mileage has dropped to 4.8 mpg after running right around 6.3 for all fuel quarters before this started in June.BIGGEST PROBLEM IS I CAN NOT GET ANY VOLVO DEALER TO FIX IT.

Yeah, but you are not going to like it. First of all you have an EGR cooler leaking...get this repaired ASAP!!! If you don't, you will take out the mass air sensor, if you do this, expect an additional $800 US for the sensor. It is going to be bad enough that you will spend about $2400.00 on just the cooler, labor will be extra. Second, have your turbo inspected..if you have to have this replaced, unless you paid for the extended warrenty, it will cost you anywhere from $3800.00 US and up. I would ask you, what messages is the ECM sending you at every start-up? If you are getting n "Engine Service" message, you have allready taken out the mass air sensor. Mine is in the shop right now for an EGRcooler and mass air sensor, as well as a APCS sensor, that one keeps 16 PSI in the cooling system at all times. Good Luck with yours....the fuel mileage going down is because the engines begins to derate itself until you get it fixed.

Toolman, I meant to also tell you to idle the truck and see if you have "White Smoke" or steam coming out the exhaust. You will really notice it when you idle for a prolong period and then start driving.
