I am doing a school project on IdleAire. I am not affiliated with the company in any way. I am just trying to figure out why truck drivers don't like IdleAire and what needs to change to make things better for the truck drivers. I have to pass my project to graduate so any information that anyone has would be really helpful. my uncle is a truck driver but he had never even heard of idleaire so i wanted to talk to some people who had. thank you so much!!!!

I think it's a waste of money!!
They could have built something much more useful, like a 'truckers' Health Club with a fresh vegetable juice bar with a truckers library attached....I would pay $300.00 dollars a year for that membership!!

Land blasting you??
No, I was merely digging to find out what your situation was.

The purpose of Idle-Aire is three fold one it does help cut down on truck exhaust pollution in congested areas like El Paso,TX and heading up to the north east like Newark,DE(Petro just south in Elkton,MD and TC north in Paulsboro,NJ) and into Trenton,NJ (Petro just south of Trenton). the other purpose is to help drivers save fuel, and wear and tear on the motor for 8 to 10 hours that it normally would be idoling. to be able to shut your truck off and plug in the block and fuel tank heaters can be a great benefit in the winter time especially when the weather holds the truck exhaust close to ground level. it also gives drivers the chance to make calls, watch tv, and do things on the net in a bit of peace and quiet without all the noise of game machines and 200 people trying to talk over each other to be heard. while it does have a couple drawbacks for those who can't drive, such as the head first pull in and some of the older setups aren't maintained well. but over all it is a very good service that has benefits that out weigh the bad.

Being a former driver of 25 years but I still have my CDL I was with a friend of mine last year the only thing he did not like about it,and I was not realy impressed also because of the following reasons. If someone wanted to cut the tubing and inject something into it to- (1)Stink your cab up (2) A Flammable then strike a match and then you have problem. (3)Something that might put you to sleep then break into your cab and do you harm/or worse, But in saying that it dose have it plus's also. If you could us a more tougher material and still be light weight to ensure safety. You see after being off the road for a few years That was test ride to see if I wanted to come back on the road again.

As for issues 1,2,3 they have been poping out the kick windows for decades and doing stupid shit like that. it does not matter if it is a hose or a kick window if they are going to do stupid shit they are going to do it.

Your right about kicking out the windows! But the difference between that and making a slice in the plastic and spraying a flammable liquid up in the tube, they do not have to kick anything out and the flames will go into the cab because of the Air conditioning blowing threw the tubing and you would never know it.?

I did not say kickout a window, what I said was pop out the kick window(that little window down at the feet on the doors) it is very common for thieves to use a boxcutter to cut out that window or use a screwdriver to pop it out of the seal and then break into the truck.

idleaire offers heat, air, electric, phone, cable, internet, and most importantly... comfort to drivers not only in the cold weather but also when it's hot. It cuts emmission from 100 % to ZERO % if the drivers use it. It helps the towns, truck stops, owner/operators, states (emmission credits), etc. So far, the only entity that suffers from it is the oil companies! With the inevitable future of a "Green" society, Idleaire is a great solution to idling. By the way, it's cheaper than idling per hour, AND cuts wear and tear. Also quieter and no rattling vibrations. Drivers can get porn too.

What's worse? Idleing or some Dummy blairing through the parking lot with the Jake-brakes on?
When I'm sleeping and some A-hole does that, I wish I could kick the stuffing out of him.

You say it is cheaper than idling the truck.... that depends on who is paying for the idleair hookup!! My boyfriends company doesn't pay for it and it costs us for him to park there. He likes it tho cuz he doesn't have to idle the truck! And the fact that he has air/heat. I do believe the worst thing about the whole set up is the fact that you have to pull into the spots and there are alot of drivers out there that have difficulty backing out, so i think if they were to change that more drivers would use the service!!

If he gets a fuel bonus the cost he is paying now will be covered by the fuel bonus. since most drivers never see that bonus because they do keep the truck idleing that and have a massive leadfoot. he may see his the fuel bonus can end up paying him more then he is paying to use the Idleaire.

I work for IdleAire and I have been looking through to find different things and what different people on the internet are saying about us. Now being a shift leader working on the lot all day, I talk to many many people. Many love our service and love what we do for them. Some dislike us, spit on us or our name, and (yes this actually happened) throw cones at us and our building/equipment. It sorta makes me feel like I am being racially profiled. It makes doing my job a bit tougher, but being the manager of the lot I do deal with much more of that and other customer issues more then my employees.

I hate IdleAir too. Nothing pizzes me off worse than pulling in a truck stop at 3 am, dog tired and looking for a spot so I can get some sleep and there are 50 *$(^&@! IdleAire spots empty with orange cones blocking them, with no other spots available! I guess this means the crap is out of order at the coned spots. What a waste of space, if ya ask me.
