Making a case for trucking industry EOBR mandate

There are 8 comments on the Examiner.com story from Oct 18, 2012, titled Making a case for trucking industry EOBR mandate. In it, Examiner.com reports that:

The argument for the EOBR dates back to 1990 and continues today. Many professional truck drivers, however, argue that the EOBR will have no increase in safety as the regulators advise and could add to further harassment issues by motor carriers against their drivers.

Europe has been using a loose version of it for years. after years of using it what has changed? nothing, other then revenue from fines has gone up. they can claim safety all they want but states know this is just another revenue stream.

yep it is surprizing these Crooked Companies get
away with Murder. They NEED the new CSA Program
AND On Board Computer Logs....and Pay the driver
by the hour or some method where he is NOT pressured to drive Tired or Sleepy.
Trucking HAS a New Babysitter(CSA) and they NEED to
PAY the DRIVERS real wages..like the union does...
but NO...they push Brand New "students" out onto
icy highways(this winter) to slaughter at will!!!!
Low paid illiterate clowns(Meat in the Seat) is what they prefer(cheaper)...they have crooked Lawyers to keep them in Business.
It is a Crooked and Disgusting business..if you see
and 18wheeler...run for your Life...LOL.

Wow...this is a prime example of a "saftey advocate" from outside the industry. Sir,I challenge you to prove any of your points. And by the way,"I heard it from...." is not proof,it's an allegation. Show me the article, report,or other source of your opinion.

I have a problem with lack of flexibility with current hos rules. I am not necessarily against e logs but I wanna be able to split my break to allow time for a nap or lunch, like we used to do. Nowadays drivers are playing beat the clock just trying to follow tbese rules. It is less safe for me. Allow me the flexibility to make the best choices available. I could then sleep when I am tired and drive when i'm most rested. Thats not how it is for me now. I am tired much of the time trying to conform to the govt way. There be limits on hrs . I just wanna use mine the best and safest way possible.Currently I am not driving . One reason I am not so interested in going back to work is these rules. They cause more stress and fatigue for me. 20 years experience. Clean record and had 18 years with one company but some of these rules make things worse. I think truck driver deaths were up 20 percent last year I think.I wonder if that has something to do with drivers trying to force themselves to operate when its legal instead of when it would be safest.Things probably aren't gonna get better. Most likely worse. Good luck.
