With diesel fuel at $4.159 a gallon, what you're going to have in the near future is companies cut throating each other over the scraps that didn't make the rail which most of that is passed on to O/Ops if going to the west coast, a company driver OTR has to be making $400 to $500 a week which means maybe 2500 miles a week and away from home??????

It's gonna happen, in fact it's already happening.
You can take it to the bank.

We will see. They have shipping by rail for years. There may be an increase in that but I don't think it will be a doomsday scenario.

Guess this isn't a good company then?
http://jobs.myspace.com/a/ms-jobs/list/q-Saia...

Regardless, I would work for Yellow (they took them over), if i had no other choice. Sure is a big company though. I don't like big anyway but good luck to you.

I thought you were doing good on intermodal, but I guess they do that as well?

Intermodals good lastword, alot of people are getting into it, there's so much freight, heavy freight too.
I just wanted to go to Vegas so I could gamble.
For freight 'CHICAGO' is the hot spot.
Intermodal is good but it's all work and no play.

I didn't know YRC (yellow) took over Saia.

I did a search on Saia that's how I found out. Looks like yellow owns a lot of shit. I've hated them ever since they took over preston trucking and made it go under. But that's me.

Your not a real trucker unless you can set your bare arse on a toilet at the Mount Eagle Truck Plaza in Tenn. or Truck Town in Fontana California

Good old Preston Trucking, all those drivers dovetailed into Yellow and kept their seniority. There were no losers in that deal except the new drivers at Yellow who thought they had seniority until those Preston drivers dovetailed in ahead of them, Most should be retired by now!!! You gotta love 705 & 710!!

Don't know about that. I know checks were bouncing and gates were padlocked. It was a union shop so maybe that's where the seniority thing came into play. Don't know what dovetailed means either. I do know I don't trust large corporations.

Dovetailed..

Not sure if it is called that, but when one union shop buys another the seniority lists are ( sometimes) blended so thst all drivers have thier seniority intact.

My uncle was a regional manager of a union shop company, My dad was a driver. When the company was bought by another union company my dad with his 22 years of seniority was able to bid in the next set of bids as a 22 year man and as always he kept on doing city p and d ( he actually loved doing the city where all the dock formen knew him and his coffe cup was never empty, he was also home every evening by 5 pm...
( wondering where he went wrong on my education, I was supposed to be a rocket scientist LOL)

first time I've heard it called that too. but yeah, i think the union is a separate entity from the company. shouldn't lose your seniority just because the company is bought.

One of the many things mentioned in almost every story about a "take over" or "merger" is the amount of money the new company comprised of the seperate parts put together will save by eliminating duplication of labor... THEY ALWAYS FIRE OR LAY OFF SOMEBODY... and seniority is not a criteria for best person to keep around n most of thoe deals, CHEAP WORKER IS.

If your company was so mismanaged as to end up on the sales block, be glad some one bought it and kept some of the people I guess....LOL but there is no job guarentee in aclosed business, nor in one sold, unlss the buyer agrees to give it. The buyer ( new owner) will decide before buying if he wishes to extend such a guarentee.. they usually don't.

as to seniority in the union, they do not always absorb members and let them go off to new jobs keeping seniority ( on the job) either... Time in the union toward retirement is a different inside thing.

This point of this Blog has absolutely NOTHING to do with race, color, creed and/or nationality, Idiot! You never said others weren't trashy, but you DID manage to get your DIG in about Mexicans.(If that wasn't a DIG, then I don't know what is...) My ex owns a Truck repair shop. I've seen truckers of every nationality who are down-right pigs.(It's pretty darned bad when a Michanic has to put a gas mask on just to be able to get in a truck to start it, so he can set the timing.) But, we all know what's worse than a stinky smellin' trucker, don't we???(Yup, we do...) That would be no other than an immature IDIOT who can't get past his own prejudice. It's IDIOTS like you, you Idiot, who REALLY give the Truckers a bad name! Those Mexican truckers you speak of put food on your table, put you in a vehicle, put clothes on your back, just like every Trucker does...IN FACT, if it weren't for Truckers,(both clean & dirty, whether Mexican, Indian, Portuguese, Asian, Caucasian, etc.) you wouldn't even get a free toothpick at the Diner. IMPO, you, IDIOT, are the epitomy of "Trashy". Only truck you should be drivin' is the one that takes you out of the industry.

Hummm.....So him calling me a name, was OK? And, again, I never said others weren't "trashy", only that the majority of trashy truckers I have seen, have been Mexicans. Maybe you also need to pay attention when you read..... Now if you`ve seen white\black\mexican truckers, who are trashy on an equal basis, so be it! How can I argue what YOU`VE seen? Same goes for you and the other guy. I am speaking based on what I have seen, so how can you tell me I am wrong?
And California truckers have not been the problem, as you seem to think. The ones I speak of, have been from all over the Country. But, I can see how you Texans love to think Texas is so great.(you can have it) And yes son, I can drive just fine.....How about you?
So lets recap here......You accuse me of name calling, not thinking, having an emotional response, lying, yet your post has the same content, that you`re complaining about. Can you say "Hypocrite"?
