I was wondering if any truckers out there are driving in bullet resistant cabs with all these shootings on the interstate? Maybe body armor should be provided to us with concern?

Thats a good question and I dont have an answer. I suppose the best thing we can do since our troops cant even get the armor they need in battle is to hope for the best and drive with a helmet on...lol Dave from www.screamintrucker.com |

First find out what kind of material you're gonna haul, and how much it pays.Also how much weight you need too carry, Most consruction sites want the max which is 72.800lbs for Stone. Then you have to decide are you gonna lease your truck by the hour? Going hourly rate use to be $75.00 an hour, Or are you gonna get paid by the load, if it's less than .90 a load you're going to have too run like crazy, I mean like run over your grandmother in a wheel chair. Find all these issues first, the look at least a 38ft frameless mongoose trailer,make sure the RAMS don't leak. Make sure you can also haul Concrete and asphalt,So you're never empty,You haul Grade-8 stone in from the quarry and Concrete,asphalt to the crusher,Remember if you get paid by the weight you must weigh every load you do and don't haul less than 72.8; I know it's a pain to hav to go back to the loader for more, but it's your money,If you find a loader at the quarry who loads you right everytime, Love him bring him a Wendy's burger STICK WITH HIM: Hope this gives you some insight, Good Luck.

Matt what kind of truck are you looking to buy? Reefer,Flatbed?? What ever you decide don't go to SELECT"TRUCKS, Yeah $999.00 down, and $22.000 finance charges,Are you a broker? What are you gonna haul? Do you have your own customers? Are you gonna haul Broker loads? Yoi know brokers have 30 days to pay you right? Lot of compitetion in the freight business: Bottomline Matt; Unless you have some company or someone you know who's gonna give you at least a MILLION DOLLARS worth of freight don't even think of buying a truck, it's a cut throat business,I've seen over the years people make the mistake of trying too buy a truck first,buying the truck is the easy part now how are you going to pay for it? Where's the Freight? How much does it pay? Are you prepared to spend $50.000 a year on just Diesel Fuel,Make sure you get a truck with #150gal fuel tanks. You need to start with a Brand New truck, Less maintenance costs,If you have to buy a used truck FORGETABOUTIT!! Never listen to the salesmen, they care about one thing only;saleing you a truck,also never buy a truck and lease it on with a company, because you have no control they have the freight not you, if you get mad with them or them at you and they stop feeding you the freight; guess what?? Find freight to haul first or better yet go to school and get a Freight Brokers License, you'll be much better off. Good Luck!!! |

im not sure how this reply thing works i hope i got it right , Matt tanglefoot is right on the money with every thing he suggested. As were his concerns for you sounds like he's been there .I would add a few but only if you were to be so intent as in my case (*hard headed ) gonna buy me truck any way da da da da yea yea yea...Unless you just love to work allday plus dealing with the all the other knuckleheads out on the road,come home and work well into the night so you can make tomorrows list ,grab 2 or 3 hours sleep get your butt off the couch where you fell asleep with your supper plate still in your hand and supper in your lap , jump in the shower (wait got ahead of myself]If lucky to park close to home run out and do a quick pretrip fire that rock bucket up so the heat might be starting while you wash last nights grease and dirt off.If its across town forget it get clean grab some joe hit the door and repeat steps tonite and tomorrow.If this sounds good to you then a used truck might be what your looking fo. NOT!!!Ive seen a few pull it off but they got lucky and knew the truck and previous owner.Listen to Tanglefoot |

Hey Warrior...Do some research for your area to see what kind of work there is for dump trucks, what kind of loads are available, ect. You can gain good knowledge of different types of Dump Trucks available here http://www.truckertotrucker.com/trucking/dump... I know of a great salesman in Phoenix that can probably help you out too, I know he's in Phoenix, but it would be worth it for his knowledge. His website is http://www.aztrucksource.com Check to make sure you can get a cdl at 19. |

I'm just trying to get some input on what male drivers actually think about women making their way into the trucking industry. After raising my son as a single mom..I had to sacrifice many things especially a career..now in my 50's I'm looking to get out of town and drive a truck with the big boys. Can I handle it....I think so...I handled everything else ...so why can't I do this.I'm not a feminist, trying to make men look bad...I just want to earn a living in the time I have left and see America along the way. I would like to hear the results....Thanks...LadyM

I just found a great test for diabetes. I was listening to Bozo on XM and heard about a company called flexsite.com . they sell a diabetes test that lets you test every 90 days. It measures your average glucose levels. The best part is all i had to do was put 2 drops of blood on the form and mail it to them. then called back in for my results. it definitely worried me to hear how many truckers have diabetes. i guess it comes with the job. the other site that i found easier to remember is www.alwaysincontrol.com . it goes to the same place.

I AM A CAR DEALER WHO OWNS A 3-CAR CAR HAULER. I TRAVEL TO OTHER STATES TO BUY CARS BUT GO UP EMPTY. I'M INSURED AND BONDED AS A TRANSPORTER IN ADDITION TO MY DEALERSHIP ALSO BEING INSURED. HOW SHOULD I GO ABOUT GETTING HOOKED IN ON THE INTERNET ABOUT OBTAINING LOADS TO TAKE UP WITH ME TO MAKE SOME MONEY. IF ANYBODY HAS SOME ADVICE OR POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Hey - Is there anything good about driving truck these days? Are there any positive things you can remeber about doing the job of delivering goods? I would like to hear some positive input so I can handle the future of driving a big rig.
Thanks |
||||
JUST GOOGLE IT http://roundtable.truck.net/archive/o_t__t_59... "It means you don't have a choice which load you'll be assigned. However, it doesn't necessarily have much to do with being assigned something you can't legally deliver on time. Most drivers who find a carrier that offers them a choice prefer to choose where they're going, the length of the trip, and the conditions of that customer's loading or delivery -- some customers waste more time than others. Having a choice also allows you to avoid bad weather sometimes. " |

Well if you like being alone and only making half the the money you work for, being hated by the motoring public because your big rig gets in their way,crowded truckstops, crappy food, crappy service, Ugly Women, inconsiderate drivers, If you have anything going for you, choose another career. The only thing good about OTR trucking that I like is the "SOLITUDE"!!!! |
