I will never get on their ship.
This is poor management.
An where did the ships Doctor get his license.
This family should get 10 times the amount back.

I have heard so many horror stories about cruise lines. They seem to have no sense of responsibility for their passengers. I think that they need to have stricter regulations in international law or whatever it takes. I believe the problem with them being regulated is that they operate in international waters and can't be bound by the law of the land they operate out of or something like that - if anyone knows for sure please say, but I know that as an industry they pretty much all suck. They don't do background checks on their employees, if people disappear off their ships they try to cover it up and keep it quiet. I bet they wanted that family off that ship so bad cause they were afraid of an outbreak and everyone on their ship suing for food poisoning or something. I hope they do the right thing and refund those people their money - the bad press is going to foster a lot of negative word of mouth for them and that is damaging to business. If it's the bottom line that they are concerned with, they may want to keep that in mind.

ok, I don't agree w/the cruise line leaving them stranded, but a 7 month old who is vomiting & has diarrhea shouldn't be on a cruise ship with hundreds of other people. I am no expert, but vomiting & diarrhea are not typical symptoms of a cold. This story sounds a little strange-wouldn't they have to have passports to go on a cruise in the first place?

That is a disgrace! And then they want to give them a credit towards another trip! I think not! That's like a restaurant that I went to and found something "extra" in my food and they gave me coupons for free food! Heck no! I don't want more of the same thing!

The cruise ships use worn out, out of date docs. The mother should have been smart and just taken care of the kid by herself. A cold? Can a mother not tell a cold? It is not like she was a first time mom. but, all that said, the cruise line really was a scummy rat about it.

That is just plain wrong. I understand that they (the cruise ship) might not have wanted to take any chances with an infant, but to just leave them there is another story. Not to mention all the money that they had to spend to get home? The cruise line should be reimburssing them for that money. Also, arent there supposed to be MD's on these ships? They could not tell that this was a "cold"? Kind of scary when you ask me.

yes actually i have 3-i do know the difference between a stomach virus and a cold. according to the more accurate report of this story on wftv.com, the child's symptoms were very similar to the norwalk virus, and that is what caused the concern on the part of the cruise line. i see both sides of this, and i think there could well have been a much better ending to the Cortez family trip. if we were to consider all angles from both a business perspective and personal one, responsibility should not be placed solely on either party. the cruise line should not have left them stranded, but they should have purchased travel insurance-anyone with children knows that there are no guarantees that they will stay healthy 100% of the time all the time.
