Good points, Ivana. In your opinion, which hub generates the most OAD traffic and profit, PHL or IAD? In your opinion, which CEO is LESS desirable to UAL employees, Parker or Tilton? "Enquiring minds want to know." ;-)
And YOU R ALL THE SAME, that includes YOU as well. So consider the screen name, we r in this together or we r all the same.... less divisive. IAD would be a hands down winner. Most importantly it allows UA to carry considerable Business ( Tech business) and of course the Foreign office business class traffic. Also PHL competes more directly for the trasffic in and around PHL and NJ that CO's EWR hub targets As for CEOs I would have to say Parker wins because of the votes from the West employess. He is hated by the East employess and Tilton is hated by ALL UA employess. Though I still think Doug should resign asnd check into the Betty Ford. Honey, HE DOES HAVE A PROBLEM.

No one is better than anyone else...it's just a matter of time before we all get fitted for a SOUTHWEST uniform...now shut up and clean the plane...we have to board...and we already have a gate hold!

<quoted text> I do get around and a LOT. LOL. UA has a FAR SUPERIOR INTL PRODUCT. On the 2 US intl flts I was on, it was embarasing for the crew to keep saying... Iam sorry we are out. Do u have emotional ties to US? I understand. I have none to either. Its just UA happens to be my hometown airline.
And US is my hometown airline, preceded by the award winning original Piedmont Airlines (www.jetpiedmont.com). As you can probably tell, I've had generally good service from US's CLT hub. Therefore, my point is that CULTURE and EMPLOYEE ATTITUDE wise, US employees have NOTHING to be ashamed of compared to their counterparts at UAL in most of thier hubs,....except PHL. So, please don't tell me you formed your opinion because supplies ran out on just one or two US Intl flights. I'm sure you are aware that EVERY company has its' bad days/months. Have you frequently traveled in Intl Envoy/Business/First Class on their A330s and still feel this is an inferior product to UAL's older equipment/same class service? Furthermore, I may be proved wrong in the future, but I reiterate, at least US flight crews have NOT been so selfishly callous with respect to their demands that they have walked off planes full of customers without telling anyone,... as UAL crews have a reputation for doing. That, I will never forget. Baggage handling, customer complaints, and on-time woes have beset both, although the latest report shows US Airways having the best March on-time rate among large carriers, with 79.1%. US also ranked first in on-time performance for first quarter and among top three for the past four months according to a Yahoo Finance story dated 07May08. Where was UAL, Ivana? Therefore, saying UAL's image is "bruised" is a little too generous in my opinion. But then, like you, I am also partial.

I have serious doubts you are a US Attendant. 1) That's a pretty rotten attitude.I guess you could be a member of the 5% club, though. 2) US still has meals, blankets (though I wouldn't use them after the first early morning flight), movies, and a few magazines.

Oh my dear, I bow to your passionate defense of US. There is not much service onboard any US carrier. The only thing that distinguishes one from another is the employee attitude.... which depends on how they are treated by Management and the resources and infrastucture Management provides them to do their job. You are smart. LOOK AROUND AND PICK THE FEW WINNERS. Yeah, Southwest, Jetblue, CO. Perhaps DL, sometimes. US does not offer meals on domestic flights. The Product on int'l flights keeps on being chipped. Remember the Envoy Class when it waqs first introduced and see what it is now. Mr Parker keeps on erroding the product. Perhaps that is the sign of the DAY. On a certain level, it is the best course when we are talking about survival. At 200$ fuel who will be left standing??? Those with deep pockets and the most extensive reach. And plz dont doubt if US attendant says she is US Cabin crew. Civility is fast receeding in the times Glen Tilton and Doug Parker.

Declining service? Yes, I agree. It was inevitable after the passage of the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, although I HAVE to say that Piedmont's service was EXCEPTIONAL as late as '85-'86,---(guess which airline employed Gordon Bethune PRIOR to his brilliant turn around of Continental from worst to first). As you know, the trade off for more affordable air transportation HAD TO entail cutting of services compared to the heyday of yesteryear. The service of JetBlue and SWA, although good by todays standards, would be seen as 'utilitarian' compared to the experience on DAL in the late 70's. BUT, we paid for it,---(A coach class fare on DAL's first ATL to London flight in 1978 cost $877. Adjusted for inflation, it would cost $2,770.00 today)--- Basically, airline amenities/service will tend to standardize around the style/level provided by the most popular/profitable carrier(s) of the time. Hence, SWA's snacks and JetBlue's entertainment set the norm today. If one wants more, they pay for it in Business Class, or higher elsewhere. If we, the traveling public, want to raise the standard of service in a competitive environment then we need to HEAVILY patronize the carriers that provide that level of desired service, REGARDLESS of the COST and INCONVENIENCE. That's free market economics. Easier said than done, yes?*********PS- I believe you meant to say that US DOES offer meals in Business/Envoy or purchaseable snacks in coach on their mainline domestic flights longer than 2-3(?)hrs, yes?

Most of what you say, I agree with. Exception... service is not just amentities but the people who offer them. Employee groups at the 5 Major airlines have the worst employee relations in thier History. I neednt say more of what that translates into service. Though I have to say that DL has improved significantly ever since the successful outcome of their Keep Delta My Delta campaign. All the other 4, its sad. But then almost all of today top airline officers are not from the rank and file... sure they may have worked at other airlines... as officers... Parker, Anderson etc. They dont get it about take care of your people and they will take care of our passengers. Grinstien, one before Anderson did as did Bethune. That is why Southwest is a success.... I personally have bought a ticket on them just once.... out of SFO it is UA for me and I dont like flying them... its old planes and most of the time employees who dont want to be there but it is thier job, so, a paycheck. The indignities Tilton keeps throwing at them. But then that is one messed up company.. their unions, pilots, afa, iam, they hve so much pork in their contract, unbeleivable. It is one big INEFFICIENT business. No wonder, Anderson and Kellner said Thanks but no thanks. God bless their union with US.... selfishly, I wish CO, DL or even AA took over thier SFO hub. Wishful thinking, I amy be stuck with them. I wonder if I deserved it. Yes US does offer food on int'l flts. But thier Envoy class is frayed and you can see the cost cutting going on under Doug P and their coach meals, bring yr own brown bag or dont be cheap... Buy airport food. And for those who say airlines only provide transportation. WRONG. You set it up with meals and fireworks. So deregulation happened,,,, where is the American INGENUITY.... WHY didnt the fat cat hub and spoke airline evolve. They are paying for their years of neglect and satus quo mentality. And UA is the perfect example. Take away those PA routes, and what do you have. And those asian routes may not be prime for too many years. Who needs a hub in Tokyo when the new planes can fly non stop to most asian capital. Dinosaurs became extinct and Iam sure some of these airlines are going to meet the same fate. Their employess, find other passions in life, go back to school, and TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.
