I quit smoking 5 yrs ago but i don*t care what others do as long as they are not bothering me.I think if you try to force your morality on visitors that you depend on-remember they don*t have to come to your state.

Politicians have become drunk with the ability to make and enforce laws on everyone, I do not smoke but I defend the smokers right or the bar owners right to have a smoking establishment. If I do not want to enter a smokers bar or be employed in one that my decision based on circumstances that I may not want to be around smokers. Get these damn ass politicians out of every bodies lives and stop playing God Almighty, they neither have the intelligence of moral authority for such behavior. They are just sucking up to the gullable sheeple public.

Most smokers are in denial. Typically we don't like to admit that it has an effect on our health, nor will we admit that it affects others.

Smoking was banned on Hilton Head Island, SC on May 1 of this years. All the smokers complained and cried out about how business' were going to close. Enforcement of the ban was strong from the start. At the onset, a couple of business' tried to ignore the ban. After stiff fines, no one ignored the ban. The police enforce the ban here. Sorry smokers but on Hilton Head Island, the ban has been a non-event. Business continues and smokers are smoking outside. Hawaii will survive.

Good if they are busy enforcing smoking bans guess what I can do? Call in a indoor smoking mob at one end of the strip and have a heyday at the other end!

Actually I am not a smoker. I do own a business and think it is ridiculous that the nanny politicians decide whether I can let people use a legal substance in my place or not. That should be my call. If people don't come in because of all of the smoke and business drops guess what I will do. If I go nonsmoking and business drops guess what I will do.

I know if I were a tax payer there and the law enforcement community was dealing with smoking as opposed to real crimes I would have a problem.

Smoking sucks to anti smokers (your kind) not nonsmokers (my kind).

To coin a phrase get a clue - if you can.

Your kind> "non-smokers who see nothing wrong with smoking other peoples smoke" is very limited in numbers. Most non-smokers hate smoke, it does cause illness and death, it stinks, turns peoples teeth yellow, gives them bad breath, ages them, smokers litter everywhere, are thoughtless and inconsiderate addicts. It is your opinion that you should make the call on indoor smoking at your business. In Ohio and at other places the people decided that it is the publics call, not yours. If smokers had respect for others there would be no law and there would still be no indoor smoking. It is their lack of respect of others that prompted the law to be enacted. Smokers lost; We all won.

My family and I were considering booking to Hawaii this year since my brother and his family went last year and had a great time. However, due to the smoking ban, we booked our vacation in Mexico instead.
Large family groups and conventions are way down with the later down about half. Japanese tourism is down double digit. Oh, by the way, the Hawaii death rate is actually up slightly since the ban. The AHA lied and said the ban could lower heart attack rates by 40% in the first few months. What a lie!

Have you seen the real numbers from an OBJECTIVE source. Hawaii tourism is down. Bar business is way down and several closed already and many and fighting to survive on their savings or allowing smoking inside in a desperate bid to stay in business. Several months in 100 bars sued the state for heavy losses caused by the ban. Do you think they were "faking" it?

In the end, all you "won" was the distinction of being lied to about the "dangers" of secondhand smoke and being herded like sheep to the cause. You also "won" the right to watch businessmen and workers go out of business. Be proud and enjoy your sanctimonious rants.

No matter how often you bang on with that, it won't be any less of a lie. The majority actually don't care very much - as can be seen in many votes, where bans get enacted with less than 30% approval.
The majority are for some places to continue to allow smoking.
