San Pedro Little League is striking out on new fields

Full story: Daily Breeze

With a little more than a year left on their temporary lease at Knoll Hill, Eastview Little League officials say they've "exhausted all options" for the time being to find a new permanent site for the league in San Pedro.

I THINK ALL YOU SELFAPPOINTED EASTVIEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS SHOULD STOP CRYING AND YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS COMING. YOUR PAST PRES. DAVE AND RON PUT YOU IN THAT POSITION. QUIT CRYING AND SIGN YOUR KIDS UP EITHER AT BLOCH FIELD OR PECK PARK AND MOVE ON ALREADY. THESE DAYS YOU CANT GET SOMETHING FOR NOTHING. FURTHERMORE, IT WAS FOOLISH TO BUILD SOME NICE FIELDS UP ON KNOLL HILL KNOWING YOU WOULD GET BOOTED. THOSE IN ON THE TAKE SHOULD BE ASHAMED !

This is the problem when you have a Councilperson who is not invested in the community. She was telling ELL to go to 22nd street, until the CNC protested. She was cheering "Save the our fields" when the cameras show-up, than did nothing. She said she would go to State Lands Comm and get us the fields, that never happened. She lied about the Navy fields and then had the fire chief lie we could not have the fields at Knoll Hill. She'd lied that the new owners of Ponte Vista can not make the project work if they put in fields.

Finally, in a clever piece of dishonesty, Eastview Little League was put in a box by Hahn so it had no other options but Knoll Hill. Why? To make it the Port's problem. In the hopes it would not effect Hahn politically, no matter the outcome for the kids. Because THIS IS ALL THAT REALLY MATTERS TO HAHN!

There is no reason these fields can not be put at Ponte Vista right now, other than that would not delay the decision even further until it does not matter for Hahn politically. The new owners would agree to it. All decisions about ELL by Hahn contemplated one thought: What is best for Janice Hahn. Ms. Hahn's words tell us stories; her actions tell us the truth. Until Hahn is gone ELL will never have a permanent home!

The facts are simple:

There is no available land in San Pedro -- other than Knoll Hill.

Bloch Field and Peck Park DO NOT have the capacity to absorb 600 kids into those programs.

Like the many other 'private' non-profits utilizing public property in San Pedro, Eastview LL is providing a reciprocal service to the Port by enhancing the quality and image of Port-owned property at Knoll Hill.

Detractors of Eastview - hoping to see the league go completely out of business - MUST be willing to look into the eyes of 600 kids, their parents & siblings, and their grandparents and say: "I'm sorry, we and our businesses and self-appointed governing groups don't want you here. We don't like you. Go away. Go run the streets and try not to become troubled, at-risk youth."

The 'Simple Solutions'(like those kids learn in school):

1) Extend the Eastview LL lease for 2-3 years.

2) When the economy turns around, honor the Knoll Hill Steering Committee recommendations and develop and wonderful new Knoll Hill.

3) Until then, just play ball!

is running for Lt. Governor and about to toss, maybe not toss, but allow you to fall under the bus.

Nothing could happen to solve this unless she presses and she is looking at the calendar.

The City could easily afford to maintain the fields simply by eliminating a few of Hahn's useless staff members who bilk the city with their undeserved compensation and perks.

decisions on this either. I often drive past that "park" created across from the Target. What a waste of money. I have seen 1 person sitting on a bench there since it was created and I drive the area several times a week.

It is a waste of $ to create, a waste to water in both $ and H2O, a waste to maintain. At best the southern half should be a park with the northern half a parking lot for the soccer fields. Even with what seems like fewer teams, the parking there is still horrible. That would have been a community service.

So- it's okay to boot the dog park and anyone else who wants to use that space for their kids because not everyone has boy children who like baseball, but it's not okay to boot the mostly living on the East side of town kids. Screw the kids who live on this side of town so your kids can have exclusive use of the park?

All this bickering back and forth about a place for the kids to play meanwhile ANOTHER PASSIVE PARK is being built on 22nd street as community leaders sit by and watch.

That doesn't help the kids on the north side of town. Do you expect them to all trek down to 22nd street from the projects while the rich kids play in the park in their neighborhood?

The area across from Target isn't a park, it's a greenbelt. Did you prefer the trash and weeds?

I read nothing in the article that suggested the league management went as far as they could to try and get Eastview Park as a place to play.

First, it is leased by the city of Rancho Palos Verdes on land owned by the Sanitation Districts.

The Sanitation Districts are in the process of building a new Outfall System that will require efforts by San Pedro residents even though most of them do not use the services of the County Sanitation Districts.

Many players live in the area of Eastview Park and many of them live in Rancho Palos Verdes.

It is time for our city of Rancho Palos Verdes to step up and support its families on the east side of The Hill.

It is time for the County Sanitation Districts to step up and support communities they will infringe upon with the new Outfall System placement.

Eastview Park may be in the city of Rancho Palos Verdes, but there are many in our city who decry so much open space instead of space for kids to play ball and this may be one to help everyone.

Of course, EVLL will have to share the fields and probably pay to lease them, but it could allow a place for all kids to play.

Years ago, the residents of The Gardens opposed AYSO fields at the park. But I think we can agree that the best place to have Eastview Little League is in Eastview and that could mean watching games at Eastview Park. It could be that simple.

Knoll hill is not the place to have an organized little league and there should be no extension there.

Let Eastview play in Eastview at Eastview.

The leaders of Eastview (including Mr. Pirozzi) are doing a great disservice to our community for not speaking out about Hahn and all the lies and false promises. Their plan for the future of ELL is hope. That is it. The only time Hahn did anything for the league is when the league went to the Mayor and then went to the press. Hahn has put the league in a position where all they have is HOPE. The is it, that is the plan, that is sad, no alternatives.

The league is now selling out to a corrupt politician because they are in such a weak position. Hahn also has a plan of hope, she hopes this issue does not hurt her next election and hopes she can further delay a decision until she is gone, and hopes whatever happens she can blame the port and the league. Yes, both parties have a plan of hope..........a very different plan.

Whatever happened to baseball fields on elementary school grounds? Plenty of land that's been paved over. Or would that be opposed by LAUSD bureaucracy?

Eastview Park for EVLL is a sensible solution that would benefit both peninsula communities, San Pedro and RPV, but RPV residents need to support it.
