The Hassenfeld Brothers (HASBRO) created G.I. Joe after seeing the enormous success of Mattel's 'Barbie'. Nothing more, nothing less. It was a great marketing idea to make Barbie a soldier with Guns/weapons and made Hasbro millions of dollars.
