It's not the papers that are doing this, at least not in my Mavericks.
I took what I had left over and took the tobacco out and rolled them using Rizla papers.
Still getting headaches..
Something is going on with the chemicals they are using.
I don't know who to blame, the tobacco companys or the law makers but soon this will be a big law suit.

It gives me a headache and I can't sleep at night since they changed. Not to mention it took the smoothness away from a smoke- time to quit!! It isn't enjoyable anymore.

If the government wants FSC smokes then give them to the yankees. Leave the south out of it. We never wanted to become part of the USA anyway.
I don't believe FSC will make anyone quit. Some will just switch the roll up tobacco, some will switch to dip, the others, the smart ones, will order smokes from Europe at half the price. 1 Carton of Marlboro cigarettes, 13.80 plus about 5.00 shipping.
The quality of Marlboros are a bit lacking and in fact stronger then US Marlboros but who cares.

I actually thought my husband and I had bought "defective" cigarettes. Even wrote to Marlboro to complain - didn't get an answer. My Q is, if these are so safe, why do I now have cig burns in my carpet after having none for 10+ years?? Anyone else having a problem with the lit end falling off when the section underneath it won't burn????
I'm going to quit. These are nasty and more dangerous (health and firewise) than they were before. I guess they finally win. I'm up for a boycott if anyone can organize one. Just for laughs, this is what I wrote to Marlboro BEFORE finding out about FSC:
"Hi, I'm writing regarding a recent problem with Marlboro cigarettes I've bought over the past two weeks. The cigarettes don't burn normally; they go out, the lit end falls off, or portions of the cigarette don't burn at all. I know this sounds odd - when I noticed it with the first few cigarettes I thought it was me, or maybe just that one pack was defective, but my husband has noticed the same thing and this is going on two cartons now. These cigarettes are completely unsmokable, so you have to be getting complaints from other people. If you know anything about this issue, I would appreciate some info. I've always smoked Marlboro's and never had a problem, but if this is some sort ongoing change, I'll be switching. I've never written to a manufacturer with a complaint before, but if the person reading this smokes, hopefully you'll understand how irritating it is to have a five minute smoke break and your cigarette won't stay lit or simply falls apart. I've never had a cigarette burn in any of my cars ever, now I have two in my floor mat. Please look into this, I'm not quitting smoking and I hate the thought of switching to another brand - and there is absolutely, positively something wrong with these cigarettes."

I'm with you all. I found out that this is going to be mandatory in the next months. WTF!!! The FSC give me headaches and stomach aches. Anyone know of a good alternative to Marlboro Mediums? Maybe we could all save some money and send a message when profits go down the tubes. I've tried rolling my own, but could never get it right. That might be the way to go again unless they start making the tubes fire safe. This just flat out sucks!!! Anyone know who to complain to? Let's do it!!

http://www.smokecafe.com/ I suggest the Marlboro lights because EU cigarettes are stronger than US.

I bought a couple of packs or Marlboro reds at the store last night.(My wife and I both smoke them.) I lit one up (thought it smelled or tasted a little funy) and smoked about a 4th of it when all of a sudden the damn thing just went out. The paper stopped burning and the tobacco kind of smoldered out. I thought that maybe I had gotten a defective pack of smokes, so I ended up buying another pack from a different store, and I'll be damned if these cigs aren't exactly the same. They taste and smell like crap and they go out if you don't keep puffing. As a matter of fact, when it hits one particular spot, it always starts to go out.(Every damn one of them) I started feeling a little queazy and had just recently noticed a tingling tongue and thought that maybe PM had changed some compound in their smokes. Tonight I logged on to check out the web to see if anybody had been experiencing this weird effect, or had heard anythings, and wow!!! I had no idea that this FSC crap had been passed. It looks as though this new FSC type of smoke was scheduled to hit here around July 1st, but they're here a few months early. THEY'RE HORRIBLE! My wife says that she can't tell the difference other than the fact that they go out if you don't keep puffing away, but I can tell the difference in the taste and aroma of the smoke itself. It has to be some kind of new chemical flame retardant additive put in certain spots on the paper, that the FDA has not studied long enough to test the effects on humans, which will end up killing every smoker that continues to smoke within a few years. If it's making me sick after less than a pack's worth, it can't be good...

I just heard about this...and to think about it, ive had a pretty nasty cough for the past couple of weeks that wont go away. not to mention these cigarettes taste disgusting...is there any brand that are not FSC?
|

I think it all depends on where you live. Somewhere on the pack you should see FSC either on the side above the barcode or on the bottom.
The cough may or may not have anything to do with the FSC smokes. I've had a bad cough for over a year now and I haven't been smoking FSC's.
Is it worse first thing in the morning and late at night? Does cold air make it worse?
Could be bronchitus(sp?). If your doctor says that your lungs are clear and he doesn't know why you're caughing that's most likely what it is.

i also noticed the difference and also go to indiana the fsc ones suck and they seem like the nicotine doesn't last like the ones that aren't fire safe. If Indiana quits selling the regular ones i have to find another brand also.

My husband and I are both smokers in Maryland. We called Marlboro and they said no other chemicals added it is the paper that has lines where burning stops. Apparently if you drop the cig in water you can see the lines, but I pay too much for each one to do that! If you look at the box the letters FSC means it is the stop burn type. Delaware eveidently doensn't have that since I have got packs from there. Lynn wrote: Just curious if anyone who smokes Marlboro cigarettes has noticed that they do not stay lit. Half way through a cigarette it will literally burn itself out. I have noticed this change in the last couple of months and am beginning to wonder if there has been a chemical change to the cigarettes to cause this. I am not the only one who has noticed this and I am curious as to how widespread this is and also if this is experienced lately with any other brands. Any info would be great.

The FSC cigarettes are horrific. I first ran across them a couple of years ago in NY. They've recently passed the law here in CT and I will NOT smoke them. It felt like my chest was filled with kitty litter and I had a terrible dry/raspy cough along with irritation to my larynx. I realized that the CT cigs were FSC too (just recently learned the code - duh on my part). I've stopped smoking FSC cigarettes and buy only non-FSC smokes. All symptoms gone in about 5 days. What does that tell ya? It's becoming impossible to find non-FSC cigarettes around here. If anybody's interested in organizing and spreading the word about a boycott, I'm in!!! Suggestions: write your legislators and the tobacco companies. Not that it will do any good (being realistic here). Hit the state governments in the pockets - that is what they will notice. Order from non-FSC states online.

We have to stick together and hit them where it hurts - profits and taxes. Get them from another state or order them online, just DON”T BUY them. Also, for twenty bucks, try this: at your cigarette outlet you can buy cigarette tobacco - any kind from organic additive free to stuff that tastes just like Marlboro - filtered tubes, and a cheap injector. After the cost of the injector, which is like $7.00, it costs about $12.00 to make a carton. If you like them, you can buy a machine for around $40.00 and make them faster. I NEVER knew about this, but now wish we would have done it years ago. They look/taste like REAL cigarettes… and they are BETTER quality. The difference between Ragu and homemade sauce… especially if Ragu suddenly started adding asbestos without telling us… Anyway, it’s worked for us and it’s worth a shot. I never in my life thought I’d be making my own cigs, but you have to try it. I never even knew they sold filtered tubes.
I also wrote to my state officials letting them know they wouldn’t be getting anymore tax $$ from me.
Also, why was this so quiet and sneaky? Not a word on the news, pro or con... no sign in the cigarette outlet, no mailer. You find out only when you start complaining to the manufacturer or try to return them, only to be told how "safe" they are. Yeah, tell that to my pounding head, the metalic taste in my mouth, my swollen glands and sore throat.
Last, for god's sake, PLEASE DON'T SMOKE THESE FSC’S WHILE DRIVING, my husband had the lit end of his cig fall off TWICE while driving, which is dangerous to say the least. God forbid that should happen while someone is going 65mph down 95. Now we don't smoke in our house OR our cars.
MD and DE will not be getting another f****** DIME of MY tax money.
