Is It Justified - R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Adding Test Cities for Camel SNUS

Full story: goodhealth.freeservers.com

R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Adding Test Cities for Camel SNUS - Is It Justified?? Samuel Garten, Ph.D., M.S., M.S. and R. Victor Falkner, M.A., M.S., M.A.L.S. TobaccoWatch.org Can we believe that RJR Reynolds is really gaining traction with their smokeless, spitless, little pouches of tobacco called Camel SNUS?? As a result of this so-called gain in traction, Reynolds is planning to expand the test markets for Camel SNUS from eight to 17 metropolitan areas. (The new markets: Atlanta, Baltimore/Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New York City, Oakland/San Francisco and Seattle.) We did a spot check on the sales of Camel SNUS in the eight cities (Austin, Texas; Columbus, Ohio; Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas; Indianapolis; Kansas City, Mo.; Orlando, Fla.; Portland, Ore.; and Raleigh.) where it is now available. The original two test sites were predominantly convenience stores (c-stores) in Austin, TX and Portland, OR. Sales in these stores and the other six sites have been slow, it seems--only if a store is near a school do sales pickup; e.g., a store in Austin, TX near two schools. We know first-hand that in Raleigh, NC sales have not been good. In one of the Sheetz stores in North Raleigh the special cooler needed for Camel SNUS has been placed under the counter. At least one c-store's advertisements promoting Camel SNUS have been moved to less visible locations. Tobacco companies including R.J. Reynolds are in agreement that for SNUS to catch on and be a strong seller, it's going to require more public awareness and education. These companies are limited on how this can be accomplished. They have tried reducing prices, giving away free coupons at c-stores and in various bars, printing brochures about SNUS and creating websites identifying the glories of sucking on tea-bag like pouches with very little continued success. It is very likely that Reynolds has given away more cans of Camel SNUS then have been purchased.

Snus worked for me. I stopped smoking with no cravings. I tried to quit many times before without success. I haven't smoked in 2 years. But, I had to order the snus Sweden.

I'm from Portland, I use it, and I enjoy it. I'm surprised it isn't more popular. It's a good way to use tobacco without the risks of oral cancer (look up the studies). I would like to use dip but it just seems too damaging to the mouth.

I just got a hold of some Camel SNUS. The report states that SNUS are not selling well in Raleigh NC are erroneous at best. Sheetz is pretty high price wise and do little to promote the product. However the independent tobacco shops in the area that I went to say that SNUS are a big success, that a lot of people quit dipping or smoking and have come to SNUS.

I purchased two tins in an effort to stop smoking.(I smoke Camel non-filtered). I threw out my last pack and went to work on one of the blends I bought (I have the Original and Mint. I wanted to try the Spice but everybody is either sold out or the product they have is out of date.)

I'm very impressed. The original is very flavorful and unlike dip not messy or bad tasting. I'm fighting my urges very well and have not had a desire to smoke in two days. I reccommend this to anyone wanting to try to quit smoking.

The known risks of long term SNUS use is virtually non-existent, much lower than even the patch or nicotine gum. Try it, you just may like it.

wow.. havent you guys heard of genuine tobacco company? go to it!! http://www.genuinetobacco.com/smokelesstobacc...

They have the new snus.. I havent tried it.. I just buy Copenhagen from there. The prices are ridiculously cheap. 50% cheaper on EVERYTHING there vs. what i would pay for at a gas station here in WI. So why is this snus safer than regular chew?

I've been hooked on Skoal for several years and made the switch to Camel Snus about two weeks ago. It was a little rough at first, but now I'm using far less tobacco, feel much better, and enjoy the flavor so much more. If you feel like you're addicted to Copenhagen or Skoal, this is a good, ease out, way to go. Highly Recommended!

I'm 49 years old and have never used any tobacco products of any kind. A friend gave me a Camel Snus to try at work and I've been using them ever since. I think they are great. I love the taste, frost is my favorite, and the fact that you don't have to spit.

I started smoking when I was 16 (prior to the age restrictions for buying tobacco), got hooked young, and have tried unsuccessfully to quit several times (my own fault, but hey).

My career took me from the Southeast, where smoking is still considered more or less acceptable, to the West Coast, where smokers are considered anathema.

In addition to not being able to smoke in most public places, smokers, just by smelling of smoke, often deal with comments and negative attitudes here in California and Washington State.

With snuff, etc, having to spit and keep containers of tobacco juice around is also unappealing.

I've found that, with this product, I can deal with my nicotene addiction without also having to deal with the negative social repercussions involved with smoking, etc.

Got a free can of Snus from my favorite local brew store. Taste was good and I like not having to spit. I smoke cigars at night with my malts and I chew Levi Garrett plugs when I'm hunting. Snus is ok. Tastes great, but overall, nothing special. I used the frost and I liked it. Would I buy it as opposed to plugs while hunting? more than likely. I like to try the rest of the flavors first. The frost was a bit too wintery to me and left a slight after- taste.

I got some coupons for free cans on Snus. I've been using it ever since. Its good stuff. Read the article by British Journal of Medicine if anyone is curious how bad it is for your health. Its actually quite interesting how much worse smoking is than Snus. Equally as interesting would be how the American people aren't supposed to know that.

Don't buy it then, no one is forcing you to use this product. For me, this is a much healthier alternative to smoking cigarettes and a step forward to eventually quiting nicotine products all together. I think it's funny how the anti-tobacco people who are the loudest are the ones who once used the products themselves but eventually quit and now act almighty and try to tell the rest of us how to live. I see it all the time and it's pathetic!

but why are you against corporate tobacco do you realize that tobacco does not kill people people kill themselves. they choose to smoke that first cigarette then another until they are addicted then they choose not to quit. I hate people who want to take away something that brings a lot of pleasure to 48 million adult smokers and 2.39 million underage smokers just because the product is harmful. it is their CHOICE.

They are selling them on the Navy bases. They are really good and come in handy on the ships where we are not allowed to chew regular chew and the smoking lines are about 30 minutes long at sea. The patches last about a half hour each, then they get wet and then you have to spit them out. Pretty cool stuff.

For the millions of smokers and non-smoker people in the U.S., Snus could be an intriquiging alternative.

As a US Marine, I quickly learned that smoking in the "field" was a no no - as well as attracted unwanted attention at night. I soon started "chewing" or "dipping" Copenhagen (The strongest of the smokless tobacco products made).

Now, with a product that removes the need to "spit" AND is in a pouch - well, sign me up!

I am sure - as with any other smokeless product, parents will be able to detect an odor from their child's mouth - should they be worried.

In the end, it comes down to adults having the right to purchase. I don't see any child-driven advertising for this product and think the people worrying about it are making too big of a production of it.

SHould you notice, Creed, it's the same with any product or behavior that is deemed unhealthy! Always the one's that managed to quit that now want to 'save" you...... As if we aren't smart enough to realize the health implications on our own.

In any event, I don't see people boycotting bottled water (Carcinogens in teh plastic bottle are released when stored in warm locations), High Fustose Corn Syrup (Truely bad for your health ALL the way around), Artificial Sweeteners (Know to be linked to various cancers in mice), Coffee (hypertension city!) and the like.

The air we breathe is full of poisons. The food we eat is inspected poorly, genetically altered and for the most part - untested. We import products from China - for God's sake...... Which, by the way, should have the motto, "Got Melamine" instead of Got Milk?".

So...Let the Snuses free. Let them find their own way in our tainted world. We are - afterall - adults! Frre the snuse!

Daily Horoscope for November 28

Sagittarius

You may want to do things on the spur of the moment, but pay attention to detail if you want to avoid unexpected expenses. Even a last-minute decision to go for a bike ride could end up with an injury or a flat tire, so try to think your actions out carefully. Once unpredictable Uranus settles down, you can enjoy a more relaxed attitude towards life. This evening you can let your hair down.
