My 1999 grand prix also had an engine fire 10/14/2012 it was running great until then. I had taken it to the auto dealer as required by the recall not sure if anything was really accomplished. 218K MILES running great promised myself no more GM cars after reading the articles stating this is an ongoing problem

Best thing to do with the GM burners is to sell them.

DO NOT park them in an attached garage or near your house. IF thy burn you want to limit damage to the vehicle only.

The best thing to with these Government Motors cars is to either junk them or park them somewhere where they won't cause any damage when they burn. Also don't leave anything of value in the vehicles.

It's not a matter of IF they will burn but they WILL BURN. BTW, the Government Motors FIX will not prevent fires.

We have an '06 GP and it burns a quart in a thousand. I researched it and there is a recall on exhaust valve guide seals so called GM and they said there is no warrentee.

Now getting a low engine power light dash light, researched it and ODBC codes indicate it's a rear OX sensor.

Another bug, when turning on the turn signals after they are done flashing the HIGH BEAMS come on automatically, you have to fiddle with the turn signal stalk to get the high beams off, other drivers love it.

Then the thing clunked when turning the wheels it was a steering column shaft.

The car has a lot of body roll and blind spots to the rear.

The car has such deep gears in drive it accererates like a turtle unless you kick it down into passing gear, it upshifts too quick.

The transmission slips when shifting into gear, GM says you need to wait 3 seconds before accelerating.

We owned a '99 GP and if I listed all the problems with it I'd run out of space, we were lucky it didn't burn our house down. The '99 had electrical problems out the gazoo.

I hate to say but it's either Ford or Jap for me next also. Our kids all buy Jap stuff.

This only affects vehicles with the 3.8L supercharged engine, like the Buick Regal GS and the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. If you don't have a Regal GS or a Grand Prix GTP, you don't have a supercharged engine, therefore you don't have a problem.
I had a 1999 Grand Prix GT and it caught on fire so it's not just the supercharged!

Correct, our '99 GP is a GT without a supercharger and GM recalled it as well. GM wouldn't reall it if it didn't have a problem.

Same thing happened to my 2000 Monte Carlo as. I came home from work and parked it. I went in the house and 5 minutes latter my neighbor came over and said my car was on fire. GM denied my claim
