If they go on strike, many thousands of unemployed workers will be beating down that door for a chance at one of those good paying jobs. I know many professional individuals with a B.S. degrees or even a M.A. that are not receiving twenty-eight dollars per hour and definitely not with those type of benefits either. I never could understand the unemployment compensation that these Union workers are able to receive, while the average blue collar worker can only receive the state unemployment.
God Bless America, because we are definitely sick. |

The worker's need to hold out. If they give in to these terms, it will weaken all the unions. Why should they have to reduce their income and benefits? Is there anyone out there who would like to earn half as much money as you currently earn? It's not the employees responsibility to be sacraficed. I hope they hang tough and vote "NO".

I hope they agree to the contract. I have been on layoff for over 3 weeks because of this nonsense. My boyfriend has been laid off for two. We are getting tired of not working, and are tired of all this going around. Paycut or not they are going to have to accept sooner or later. We both hope it is much sooner rather than later.

I bet they'll turn down the contract. I've been laid off since late Febuary because of this and I don't see going back to work anytime soon.

It's no longer that simple. Unions have had a gun to the collective heads of companies for decades. It's called karma. It is now coming back to bite them in the a$$. What the union fails to realize is that accepting a pay decrease is far better than having the job go away completely. Sorry to say but the days of scraping by in High School and walking into overvalued union employment are gone |

I don't understand some of there thinking. They say that they can not make it on anything less then 28.00$ an hour, well what about the rest of us that are doing it and have been doing it for a very long time. Why do people have to be greedy? They are being offered a huge payoff. Why not take that payoff and pay certain items off with it so that they can still live well beyond there means and others for that matter. They should be thank-ful that they have a job when all this is done. Look at our economy and the people who do not have jobs right now. What kind of message are you sending to those? Stop being greedy and learn to cut back and live within your means.

Start looking for a new job guys.......

You think the factory workers are being greedy? What about the CEO who made $150 million dollars over the past 7 years? Get a clue!!! |
Doesn't matter what the CEO gets paid. That is between the shareholders and the market. |
What YOU don't realize is that when their wage-scale goes down, your wages will also go down! Crap travels down-hill! I am thankful that I am not just starting out in my career! Couple more years and I retire. I do feel sorry for all the younger people just starting out and trying to make ends meet on low wages that are only going to get lower! |
And it shouldn't matter what the union workers get paid. That is negotiated between the company and union. |
Exactly, and the company isn't going to pay for expensive labor when the market is changing. |
You know times are changing and if people can not change with the time, there are a lot of people who will and can. It all comes down to who wants it most.. There are people out there that are working for $8.00 and hour to support a family of four. Tell me how fair that is when you have other people saying there not coming back to work unless they can make x amount of dollars? Who cares what the CEO made. This is not about that person. This is about the union workers who don't care who and what they affect, as long as they get what they want!! |
You have a good point! I don't make $28 a hour, and I make it ok, but you have understand that their standard of living is based on that income just as yours, and mine are. While I agree that their going to have to accept some kind of concessions, but what the management wants is outragous! Lets put this in another prospective. Your standard of living is based on your level of income, what ever that may be, would you want lower your standard of living to take a nose dive if your employer wanted to cut your wages by 60% or more? for example if you were making $14 a hour, and your employer wanted you to take a 60% cut, That would put you at less than $6 a hour, could you still maintain that same standard of living at that wage? Some how I don't think you could. I know I couldn't! |

Screw the union get rid of them money hungry idiots all the union does is keep those lazy ass people working. I work for theunion for 10 years and all it did was take my money, never did anything for me but take my cash for what nothing.
I know what your saying. I by no means could afford to take that huge of a paycut. However, you have to live by your means. You don't need all this bling bling and expensive big ticket items. Im not saying that I have this huge income, but I also know the difference in needing something and wanting something. You have to take a step back and look at the whole picture. If I was a union worker caught up in this, I would settle. I would take the pay incentive of 90-104,000$ and pay off a lot of my debt, and then I would take the sign on bonus of 5-10,000$ and put it away in savings for some emergency. If they can't pay off a good portion of there debt with the pay off that they will be getting then they don't deserve the money they are making to begin with. |
I hope they go after the teachers and state workers next then the health care workers get everyone on an even scale after all fair is fair. |
And that is why the economy is in the state it is. All the good paying manufacturing jobs are being eliminated so that money is not being spent locally anymore. Those making poverty wages can barley afford gas, let alone buying a new car, or even going out to eat. See the big picture yet? The middle class is what keeps this country going. |
